Cubasis for iOS
Steinberg just released Cubase DAW for iPad. I'll definately buy it but need to update my iPad OS first. Anyone tried out using camera kit and Kronos USB connection?

I think I shouldn't have any trouble being core midi compatible, just wanted to have some feedback from people bought the app and it's using it with the kronos.neomad wrote:Hi, not yet, but being core midi compatible application & Ipad usb class compliant, should work like a charme.
However, try Musicstudio (there is a lite version for free fullly functional) & beatmaker 2. Both can do the job very very well and you still have money to buy iPolisyx & iIM20

I happen to have both (Musicstudio and Beatmaker 2) and I was looking some piano roll oriented app that´s why Cubasis got me curious and wanting to buy it.
Me either I guess I would have no option to buy it and see how it works and then comment about it. I've been looking for something like this for a quite sometime and I'm glad they made their way to iOS.andreidelait wrote:Hi.
Yes you can connect the Kronos via camera connection kit to the iPad. It works MIDI and audio in both directions. I don't know how it works with this particular app but I'm very happy they released it for IOS.
Good Luck

Agreed.neomad wrote:Will tell you in a few days (far away from studio now), but again, if other coremidi sequencers work perfectly, why Cubasis will not ?BobTheDog wrote:Can anyone confirm it works with the Kronos yet?
Besides, this app seems a very nice implementation of Cubase, and a very powerful one.

Just bougth the app and I can't stop playing with it and the kronos. I have the original iPad (iPad 1) it work flawlessly using the camera kit connected to the USB port of the Kronos.
Even when it crashed a few times it got backup to the exact point where I was editing. There's one thing that didn't work as expected, not sure if it was to be because of different rates but after I recorded the kronos as audio track, playing what I recorded sound crappy, not sure if it has to do with my iPad processor. I've been using for an hour and just got one complain and that's the fact we can't send program changes or cc commands.

Thanks for the info. I'm considering trying this but could you let us know how you manage the setup for sequencing with the Kronos. In your opinion would you say this is a better option than using the Kronos internal sequencer? Can you still use the Kronos effects?JaySL wrote:Just bougth the app and I can't stop playing with it and the kronos. 1- Was midi communication good enough? (no dropouts, buffer issues, etc.)
2- Did you record audio from Kronos into Cubasis ?
3- Could you sync Cubasis with Kronos ? start/stop function
Thanks ! and special thanks to be our 'lab rat' out there

Sure, no problem. I created a new combi and assigned some programs i liked to channel 1 and 2 and drums left it on channel 10.Niblit wrote: Thanks for the info. On the iPad I created 3 midi channels and assigned kronos sound as midi device and each corresponding I/O channel to the tracks I added. After that I recorded each track using the kronos. Yes, you can use kronos insert fx to your track and when you have your track finished you can also resample it as audio into cubasis adding an audio track.
To be honest never thought it would work this great with my iPad, and yes i'm actually replacing the internal sequencer with this app.

1- comunication between both devices was excelent, using midi or audio. I was using the latency option in low to get a fast response and no dropouts detected. I even playing several notes all together and had them all recorded.neomad wrote:

2- yes, i used it to resample my work as audio track. The only problem i have the sound recorded was kinda crappy, but i've been thinking that kronos works at 48khz and this app is recording audio at 44khz.
3- yes, had no problem syncing kronos to follow this app. One let down is there's no way to send cc commands to the kronos or i didn't find out how to do that now.
No problem, you're welcome!

I know I've said before that I don't like using external sequencers, but this one does seem to be the dogs nads.. Does anyone else have anything to say about this..
Can it be a replacement for the Kronos on board sequencer?
What I'd like to do is set up a sequence on the Kronos, with all the sounds that I like to use and all the effects set the way I want,, then use the external sequencer (cubasis) to take the place of the Kronos sequencer, recording middle and sending midi back through the Kronos effects.
The Kronos sequencer will only be set up for the sounds and effects but the cubasis sequencer will contain all the midi data.
If this would be really possible to do, then there's no point begging korg to upgrade the Kronos sequencer. The ipad could be sat next to the Kronos and handle all the sequencing and we can all have a merrrrryy Xmas
