Krome 61 Keybed

Dont let the guy in the video put you off. Its perfectly playable, just like any synth action of the last 10 years or so. Great for fast playing and how he got his fingers under the keys, i have no idea.
Ironically i picked up an M Audio axiom 25 note semi weighted controller for just £45 and it has a far better keybed.
Go and try one but we warned, the screen and sounds will probably have you reaching for your wallet. I have ti admit i only paid £550 for mine. Not sure i would pay £799 for one.
Oh, and it has a 3 year warranty so i wouldn't worry too much about anything breaking on it.

I couldn't say flat out to just go buy one. You may or may not deem the keybed to be acceptable. You would just about have to try one and then choose. I think it is very useable, though, and the overall unit in my mind is well worth the price. Can you do better for more money? Of course. Can you do better for the same money? Maybe, but debatable. Could you do worse? Of course.
Hey wait a minute, I also compared the Krome key bed to a $300 Casio in my son's room. Did you watch the whole video? My son has a $300 Casio with a key bed that is far superior to the Krome's in every way.Seriously though, he compares a £799 synth to a £2000 stage piano. The Krome keybed is pretty bad but its a great sounding keyboard with plenty of high quality sounds as well as a great interface.
Another poster said the Krome keyboard is highly playable. Not if you press keys towards their base it's not. The base of the keys do not even depress. if you play keys towards their tips you might be ok though.
I stand by everything I said. I was not bashing the Krome. I like the Krome. I'm finishing a book on it as I type. It's all good. I just think the key bed is garbage, and prospective users, as well as the good folks at Korg, should be told the truth. They need to step up and start including higher quality key beds in their boards. Don't let them off easy. Call it like it is and demand more for your money
Peace

What other keyboards have you played and owned? I was interested in the Krome until I test-drove one at GC. The Krome keybed is the 2nd worst I've ever played (the first being the M50's keybed) among "synths." A $100 keyboard sold at Best Buy has a better keybed. The keybeds of other manufacturers' synths under $1k are much better than that of the Krome.wojtek666 wrote:Hi,
I have the 73 key and I must say if you buying this as a synth the keybed is very nicely playable and responsive..
I can see how a person might not like the Krome keybed. I only speak for myself when I say that it is very useable and not a factor for me. If I had paid $2000.00 instead of 1100.00 for the board, maybe I wouldn't like it either.
I have owned many boards including a Yamaha Motif ES, a Yamaha Motif XS, A Roland Fantom, A Roland Juno Gi. A Korg N364, a Korg Karma, a Korg M3, a Casio WK 3800, and others(I am a musician/hobbyist).
I have two other boards in my music room to compare with the Krome. Playing them does not make me want to throw out the Krome.(one has a much better keybed but retails for nearly 2-3 times more). The other is about the same as the Krome.(Motif XS and Roland Juno Gi)
You almost have to try it and see if it suits you. The sounds and features seem to be very well accepted by most, and certainly by me. You get a lot with the board.
If I really didn't like the keybed, though, I wouldn't like the board. Somehow, though, I just don't see it as being as bad as some say it is at all.

Like you said "what do you want for $1100" I agree with you totally. I have the 88 key and Im totally pleased with it.People complained about this keybed too.If you want a better board fork up the bucks and stop complaining:(
I have gone for the 61 key - it arrives tomorrow. I don't want to lug about a Kronos X to gigs, so the Krome is ideal. I do however wish they offered another version maybe a Krome X with a lovely keybed and aftertouch, which is still light and portable. I would have paid an extra £200-£250 for that privilege.morty wrote: Like you said "what do you want for $1100" I agree with you totally. Just a quick update - received my Krome 61 today. Really happy with it, it feels well built and sturdy. The keybed is fine for me, and personally I feel its a lot better than the TR61 I briefly owned. There are some sharp edges on the front of the keys but this isnt a big deal. There are also metal weights under each key which is a nice touch.
Still prefer my N5 keybed with aftertouch, but I knew this wasnt going to be quite as nice. However, everything else about the keyboard is superior to the N5 in every way, so I'm happy

I have the Krome.... never had the Kronos, where are the Kronos manufactured? same as the Krome? Ive noticed over the last few years more keyboards Ive been purchasing with flaws but theyre not made in Japan.Every keyboard/sound module made in Japan Ive had no problems!.Before I bought the Motif XS Rack(made in Japan) I had the Yamaha MM6 (not made in Japan) and had to take it back after one week.Ive found this problem with a few items in the last few years. Not just keyboards other electronics as well.summers2 wrote:Glad you like it, Russ. It really seems to be a decent board for the money. Let's both hope that the reliability is there. Korgs had always been stone reliable for me in the past, but the Kronos seems to have had some problems. In this case, though, so far, so good.
