Also have a look to the site www.Korg.com in the shop you can find such combis as : KRS 04 and KRS 05 – maybe these ones would suit you better :)
Good call. I got these two just for that reason. Because these are still fairly broad groups there are different genres here, but I found some great jazz patches instantly usable and good starting points for tweaking. I found both of these to be great purchases to balance all the dance stuff.

just out of interest, is this combi something you like, or are you searching for a more traditional type of jazz?

Very nice QR, and yes this is the sort of thing...this is a bit more r+b, but it is getting closer.

When I say jazz, I am talking stuff like Dave Brubeck, Bill Evans, Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul, Thelonious Monk et al

As for the funk and R+ B, think Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Victor Wooten too many others to name

And country, well anything contemporary!!

But yes, this demo was certainly heading in the right direction

Thanks

Full documentation – which you probably could not find is enclosed to files with Combi demo (zip files with PCG and PDF).

Link: http://soundsofplanet.manifo.com/pcg-demo

On the end of PDF file you will find a table with names of combi and assigned style.

And thanks to those getting involved here...I was close to just giving up and looking at other alternatives, but you have given me fresh hope..

This brain isn't up to quickly assimilating the vast amount of data needed to get up and running any time soon and the idea of buying the combis was to get a gigging setup asap, and then with these combis as a base, start to learn how to alter them and even write my own in the fullness of time, so to speak :)

true, this was more neo soul which looks like RnB.

Great, with those names i know exactly what you mean. I'm a big Dave Brubeck and Chick Corea fan myself.

I already created a stevie wonder type of combi with a couple of Custom KARMA GEs (the superstition bassline and Clav from stevie wonder), which resembles that style, but i will add a few others too in the style of brubeck and corea.

I also have a contemporary jazz combi (like Incognito) in my collection. I will see if there is some room left to add that one too.

Country is not really my cup of tea, so those kind of things won't make it into the final set.

The hard part for me is to decide how many combis of each style should be in the final 32 combi collection. I know that jazz and rock kind of combis aren't really popular, so i can't add a lot of them but i will see how things turn out in the final collection. Now i have a mixture of :
- New Age (Kitaro and Jean Michel Jarre kind of combis)
- Ambient (a little bit more modern like the sound of enigma)
- Trance / Dance (the Euro trance / dance sound)
- Orchestral (huge orchestral drums with choirs and strings)
- Soul (Rnb and Neo Soul)
- Jazz (mainly contemporary, but i will add a few more traditional too)

At first i wanted to do theme based combi collections, like only ambient or only Orchestral, but after reading through several posts on the forum i think that a mixture of genres is the way to go.

I don't mind some of the other stuff by the way :) And I even am trying to "re-invent" some tunes with the other genres available, so a mix is fine...just so I can get SOME of the particular genres I am after you will make ma a happy camper :)

One nice reference for classical, but still often used sounds is the "synth heroes" presets series for the Arturia Origin:
http://www.arturia.com/evolution/en/dow ... esets.html

It covers various styles from Joe Zawinul and Pink Floyd over Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode up to Lady Gaga.

Same for some OPX-Pro Banks.

It would be nice to have comparable signature synth sounds available as presets for the Kronos VAs (as far as that is possible).

My next collection, CATALYST v 2 will also have other genres represented - chill, jazz, smooth jazz, RnB, funk, house, hip hop, new age, world/ethnic, orchestral, cinematic, as well as dance, trance, synth pop, etc.

I'll try to have some audio demos of a few prototypes from the collection I recently sent off to Stephen Kay. Sorry, I can't give you an ETA. Stephen still has other priorities to attend to first before he puts his "magic karma touch" to each of the 32 individual combis. Once the entire collection is fined tuned to Karma Lab standards, the comprehensive User Guide needs to be written before anything is produced. This all takes a ton of time and energy. Be patient (I know I've been saying this for a while now); it's going to definitely happen.

Thanks, Dennis. Be patient. Once Stephen and I get rolling on this, it will still take some time. That's all I can say at the moment.

May be it's a silly suggestion and that I overestimate myself, but what about sharing the effort and trying it as a group? I am quite new to Kronos and as such not well experienced, but I would at least offer to share my time to support the creation of "signature sounds". :D
