Second ssd
Curious how fast you all are filling up you secone ssd? I have a quote to get a 120gig ssd installed before it is shipped to me, 244.95 for ssd, cable kit, and install. But is that a big enough ssd? All these downloads and I have no clue how big they are. I can't help but wonder if 120gig is big enough. Any thoughts welcome, thanks! Bertotti
I have the factory drive installed and a second 120GB SSD.
I would also consider myself to be a heavy user of samples but honestly, I can never see myself filling the 120GB drive.
I guess the only place where you will eat up some serious disk space is if you use the HDR function a lot.
I do, but my usage still hovers around 100GB of space used between the factory drive and the second drive. So 120GB + the 32GB off the factory drive is more than enough for me.
Regards
Sharp.

Excellent! That means I would probably never come close to filling it up! I could probably get by much smaller but 120 gig is what they carry. Sadly It will take a week after the order just for them to get the cable kit. So even once I get to order the end of next week I still have to wait for three to four more weeks to get it! Aaaarrrrr!

I've actually been thinking of getting a 240 gig SSD. It's not that I'm a memory pig, just forgetful and I think it'll be stable enough. I don't do a lot of sampling but I do record my songs with a lot of audio tracks on my Kronos.
Do you think this could be a problem later on?

My advice regarding SSD size.
I just installed the Samsung 250GB 840 series SSD:
http://www.frys.com/product/7395074
With the Corsair XMS2 2GB 800MHz DDR2 240-Pin Desktop Memory, Model# CM2X2048-6400C5:
http://www.frys.com/product/6359281?sit ... IN_RSLT_PG
And used a random 18" Sata3 cable and just plugged everything in making sure just to change the cable of the original SSD to the first position on the motherboard.
I booted up the Kronos and everything worked perfectly! I just had to format the new SSD under the disk setting.
I then bought the Kid Nepro Bundle with 5 Soundsets, the KRS 03 Nu Electro, and the Irish Acts - EXS90 Kronos Assault:
https://www.korg.com/kronossoundlibraries
I loaded all 7 Soundsets, then organized all Programs, Combis, and Drumsets into the appropriate user areas then loaded all of their samples. All in all out of my total 280GB of available SSD space I am now using around only 16GB total for everything and have 800MB of available Ram left out of the 4GB of loaded ram, or I guess I should say 3GB as only 3 of the 4GB are actually usable by the Kronos but I figured if I'm going to open the Kronos up I should future proof it in case of any updates.
I'm very happy with my brand new Kronos as I've only had it for 2 days now, I was very apprehensive to buy it because I had to sell my maxed out Triton with Moss and my maxed out M3 with Radias, fastest internal 2GB Sd, and 256Ram exb to get it. The sounds are amazing so far it's the only board I've ever heard that deserves to sit next to my Virus TI2, Fantom G6, and my V-Synth.
My advice is the more space the better you always have room to grow.

If you go for a 240GB, I think it's safe to say that no matter what habits you develop with regards to your usage on the KRONOS, I can never see you running out of space. That said, the more space you have, the more space you have to backup.
Your files are important enough for you to have created them, so it's always good practice and highly advised to keep a backup of everything you own.

I don't do a save every day on an external drive but, yes, I do do that. BTW Thanks for reminding me. It's been a couple of weeks so I need to make another backup!

Just curious about a couple of things....
You mention having your new Kronos for only two days,do you mean since the "upgrade" or is it really that age ?
(I'm thinking about your warranty situation).
Have you had any problems since doing this....ie calibration issues or anything else ?
It seems as if you now have a really useful instrument.......time to enjoy !!
Best Wishes.

@pedro5,
I was stating that I had just purchased the Kronos 2 days prior so it was brand new. It has now been around 7 months and I have had no issues whatsoever, it works like a dream. Best keyboard, synth, workstation I've ever owned. I could give a crap about the warranty because for me it's not worth buying an instrument if I can't max it out, I have an ssd in both my MPC 4000 & my MPC 5000 as well and that is a real modification as you have to use adapters, change jumpers, and custom mount in the machine. Luckily the Kronos upgrades are super elementary and it seems to me that Korg intended to encourage the Kronos users to upgrade it by making it so easy for us. Kudos to Korg for making a truly easily user upgrade able synth that blows away all others.
Anyway I highly recommend upgrading it and having years of fun with yours as well!
