tone changes depends on pressure

Post by imnothing »

hi forum.. im new in here, and forgive me for poor english.
i just realized about my kronos-73 that in some sound like sfz (brass) and la .... (e.piano), after i press it quiete strong then something that really annoying me appear. there's a shadow tone (like layer) that changing depends on my pressure. if i press it hard enough than it would be fine, but just in time i low the pressure the shadow (layer)tone change higher while the 1st tone still in normal tone.
is it factory setting, or something is happen with my kronos?
i've tried to reset my kronos, but this annoying thing still happen..
forum, I really need advice from You..
thanks

This must be related with aftertouch. Aftertouch is a modulation that can be programmed when you keep pressing the keys.

I'm not sure if you can test this by disabling aftertouch in Global mode: go to MIDI Tab then to MIDI subtab and you'll find on the upper right corner a section called MIDI Filter, there you must uncheck the box Enable Aftertouch

If the problem dissappears once you disable aftertouch, your next step is to remove any modulation caused by aftertouch on the Program by looking at every page. This is because you should enable again aftertouch in Global mode.

I think more than the aftertouch this happens with combis having different layers to different velocity curves...you can modify the velocity curve for each of the layers of the combi.

I have my kronos to the service to change the keybed at the moment so can't "investigate" but probably it's the velocity applied to the oscillators?

I just played these two sounds. The ZFX Brass sounds normal to me. It has a strong attack, then softens, and then louder again. After touch adds some vibrato and opens the filter somewhat. The FM Spark Chorus Piano doesn't seem to have any after touch effects. I do notice it will sound considerably different with different velocities.

Velocity - how hard you hit the key.
After touch - how hard you push the key after it is already down.

Both sounds have a considerable change in sound according to velocity.
I wonder if this is what you mean?

Again, sounds normal to me. Perhaps your velocity curve setting isn't ideal...

I've just found how to fix some sound, but then i realized more sounds have this problem. Yes its about oscilator but different sound has different menu that its quite difficult to find. Maybe ive done something wrong with the setting (or maybe someone else as the keyboard is use at church). So the oscilator (and others thing that might made the problem), can i set it to factory setting? Ive tried format the harddisk and use the preload.ksc from the disk once, but the problem still there.
Please help me... Sorry for ask to much

Meanwhile mas yessi, try this:
1. Deactivate aftertouch from global..
2. Try to run the single program at the combi mode.. When running it this way, it'll disable any kronos' feature related to the program, in this case, the KARMA.. I've had problem once with LA Electric piano. It doesn't trigger SST when i jumped from that program into another. When i run the program in combi mode, the problem solved!! Turns out that KARMA is the culprit.. If i remember it's either francois, MarPabl or maybe michel who tells me that..

Hi,
I agree with geoelectro those programs seem normal to me also !
Nothing special !
So you should have touched something that affects globaly the sounds.
Is the kronos connected to a Pc and DAW or another midi device that may use the midi CC ?

Cheers :D

Have you checked the global setting for the aftertouch curve?

Default is curve #3.

I like a light velocity curve, but a heavy aftertouch curve. But each to their own style of playing.

You might also do a factory reset, as you said, who knows, who did what? (you may never solve that divine mystery). :)

Reload the PCG file.

I find the show room dummies (keyboards) at guitar center (my local music retailer) are always being messed with. Church is the same way. Un-supervised, not knowledgeable people are hitting buttons & basically screwing around with things.

Review Ojustaboo's list, it may contain the answer, thanks Ojustaboo, that a cool list.

woww... You guys are really amazing.. i didnt expect such a great respons like this :) thanks alot..

btw thanks @Ojustaboo, i'll test soon.

JPWV, i've tried reset, format ssd, and restore using the restore disk (1 and 2) but the problem still there. at first I though its the prog that has problem and after using the default the PCG file from the restore will solve it, but its not. so I believe its other setting that might have this problem. Global setting i guess, so i'll try to set it to Ojustaboo advice :)

i'll report soon :)
Thanks all
