Pedals have stopped functioning

Post by musicbysterling »

I'm using two Kronos in a performance situation at the moment. I have a pedal board setup with two Expression pedals(Boss FV-500L) and two Korg damper pedals. After setting up my gear the other day, I noticed that both FV-500Ls pedals weren't functioning.
I have them both set to CC#11 in Global. I have checked and rechecked that the pedal outputs are going into the correct input(Assignable Pedal). I also have adjusted the rotary knob on the side of each pedal, as this adjusts minimum and maximum volume control; No difference where it's set, still no control.
The output cables on the FV-500Ls were not unplugged during transport because they are in a cable bundle. I am absolutely baffled by this. Does anyone have even the slightest reason why this has happened? Both at the same time?

You got me baffled as to how they were working in the first place. I thought the Boss/Roland ones were incompatible with Korg/Yamaha boards.

Are the 500s those big ones? Do they need batteries perhaps? Do you have a friend you could borrow a different kind of pedal from?

I'm also assuming you didn't have them hooked up at the same time?

I have a Boss FH-500H connected to my Kronos and it works. Of course, I'm using the Expression output with a TRS cable and it's assigned under the Global page.

If you can do it, buy or borrow a known good pedal of each kind. I had an expression pedal go out and it was in the cable, not at the plug. Is it possible somebody gave a good yank on the cords? Check the connectors if they are inspectable (not molded) If the damper pedals a simple switches, you can check for continuity. Also, toggle your settings in Global Mode- could have been a static discharge issue flipped a microscopic flip flop (switch). If you are using Combis, check the MIDI Filters Tab. Also check your Global Channel, that's what these pedal CCs travel on. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. Oh yeah, you could test your pedals on another keyboard. Most of the pedals I have on my Kronos have worked on other manufacturer's machines. The Yamaha expression pedals have always been my favorite. Just got a Korg XPV-10. You could roll a Mac truck over this thing! Roland and Yamaha damper pedal's polarities are opposite Korg's, but M-Audio works fine.

Pedals have stopped functioning

I am completely baffled by this problem. I've gone through my setup multiple times and am still totally stumped. I opened up BOTH pedals - no batteries to change. I've doubled and tripled checked to make sure CC#11 was selected in Global Setting Mode. My cables are quality ProCo cables with 90º Amphenol jacks. They are relatively brand new.
I've swapped pedals and cables between both Kronos. Still nothing.
I'm getting ready to reinstall OS 2.06 out of desperation.
I can't help thinking that whatever caused this occurred after the two tear downs and setups this week, but nothing makes sense...

Did you try any of the things I mentioned? Hard to believe BOTH machines are having the same problem.

Pedals not functioning

I tested the pedals with my Nord and they both functioned as expected. I did a reinstall of the OS and now everything is back to normal!
Thanks for all your suggestions

Glad you got it figured out. Sometimes digital technology is our worst enemy!
