String Synth sounds
Are there any good ones hiding in the Kronos?
I'm talking about real vintage sounding ones. I really love the Arp Omni and to a lesser extent the Solina.. Samples don't do it justice because the chorus needs to stay defined and the Korg ones like the polysix are 'good' but just end up sounding like a chorused sawtooth.. haven't managed to hit that distinctive modulation character yet!
So does anyone know any presets or freely available ones for the Kronos?
I have been experimenting with sawtooths and dual flangers in the mean time..

Re: String Synth sounds
There are definitely plenty of fantastic AL-1 and Polysix strings in the Kronos. Also quite a few good MS-20, but I am partial to the Polysix (especially with the ensemble effect). I'll have to get a list to you when I get back home...
Cheers!
Cheers!

I think I saw a setting called something like "Dream Weaver". If I remember correctly it was a pretty good take on the old Gary Wright sound which was probably Arp Solina through a flanger pedal. I figure you could always turn off the flange effect and get the sound you are looking for.
If music is the food of love, play on and play loud!

After playing around a bit, I've found a the Solina (Rom-M 00437/00438 StrEns-Slina) string samples that are in the ROM are rather nice.
I believe they are the same ones in the Triton EXB-PCM04 Vintage Archives.
I'm running them through the Stereo Analog Record effect with a +12db boost at 1k I think and a slight bit of key-gated noise (G1+Dmp).

I haven't looked there but have you seen anything like the Roland rs202 strings? I used to own one many years ago. I bought mine when it first came out and thought it was amazing.I'm not even sure why I sold it now but I know it was working properly when I did sell it.
This is a word to the wise. Never sell any keyboard. Ever! You will always regret it later. Always!
I truly miss every keyboard that I have ever sold and there have been quite a few. I'm just glad that I managed to get my MiniKorg back.

Re: String Synth sounds
The Omni doesn't use the standard 3 phase chorus like other stringers - ARP used a far simpler method of 3 delay lines, each with an LFO (there's a subtle difference).X-Trade wrote:

The Kronos can do this with the "Multiband Mod Delay" IFX, as it can supply up to 4 modulated delay blocks.
PM me with your email address, and I'll send a basic patch you can fiddle with
jeremykeys... I agree with your point about never selling any keyboard you buy.... It is more than just trying to replicate sounds with other newer models, but I think it is more of a psychological bond that you incorporate after playing out, recording with it, making sounds, etc. Plus, you never get the amount of money you originally paid. But sometimes we come at hard times and have to sell things that are of some worth. But if you do not have to and you have the room, never sell your old keys...
Sorry about going off topic.

Unfortunately rent and hunger caused me to sell a couple of old keyboards that I wasn't really using anymore. Such is life. Don't you find it gets hard when you know that as a musician you should really be truly appreciated for your skill and art. Ahhh for the good old days. Ya know? I've actually had roadies! Guys that would faithfully set up my rig every night without fail for just a little less than minimum wage even!
I was almost a rock star!
But alas. The music changed and I became out of fashion. Or bald. Can't quite remember what came first.
But on a more serious note. If I were to have kept every keyboard I've ever owned, I would have to have some of them in storage and not all of them are memorable enough to keep. My Fender Rhodes Mark 1 was fried. Just worn right out. The repair bill would have been close to a quarter of what I paid for it. And back in those days a Rhodes was worthless. Of course now, it's worth a ton of money. Who could know?
