Recommendation please about a stand

Post by Beemer »

I'm planning for my new "home music" room. This post is to seek recommendation about a suitable keyboard stand.

At present I have an 88 key Kurzweil K1200 Pro synth/master keyboard and will, within a month, buy a PA3x and PAas.

Logically and especially with a new PA3x to play with, I would like it to take the lower of the two stand levels. However with the K1200 weighing 30kG placed on the upper level, I am concerned that, on a carpeted room, the assembly will be like playing two keyboards on a jelly!

At present I have a single level Z shaped stand for the Kurzweil which will be discarded. I don't think that any X-shaped stand will give the rigidity that I feel is required for a two-level set-up but I could be mistaken here.

I look forward to any suggestions.

I have an On-Stage Stands Pro Heavy-Duty Folding-Z Keyboard w/ 2nd Tier. Its very sturdy with two M3-73's. Mine is on a hardwood floor so that adds to the stability but this thing is built very well so although you will likely get some wobble on a carpet I don't think there would be any concern. The second tier will soon get a Prophet 12.

The X frame stands don't look very stable to me but the A frame does appear to be pretty solid.

I prefer the Z frame stands because they are a bit more compact and are just as stable. The A frame might be better for three tiers. The X frame is just not suitable for anything. It's just to easy for them to collapse or tip over backward on the multi-tier models.

Yes, I do like the stand you mentioned here, but you've got to consider "keyboard protection" also if you're using an expensive keyboard. Someone can walk toward you from the audience, bump into the keyboard, push it forward and right off the stand!

I decided to go with the A-frame for that reason......if you walk into the frame, the keyboard moves with the frame. Bottom line: incredible peace of mind!!!

Many thanks for the stand examples. I'm going to fit HIFI speaker spikes onto whatever I buy so that should minimise keyboard bounce. The spikes will pierce the carpet onto wooden floorboards.
