All the Kaossilator variations are different enough to make it a difficult choice. Each has its pluses and minuses. It really depends on what you want to do it. I have Kaossilator 2, Kaossilator Pro and iKaossilator and if choosing between the 2 you ask about I would choose the iKaossilator (although I do prefer the KPro of the 3).

The main reason being is that I always have my iPad available and its one less thing to carry around. I use it as a scratch pad tool just to get ideas recorded or just to have some fun. That being said I do think the iKaossilator is feature poor. There is no arp, the screen doesn't rotate and for $19.99 it should do a lot more. Despite it's size the Kaossilator 2 seems a bit more professional to me.

One big difference is the way loops are recorded. Kaossilator 2 has 2 loops that can record multiple patterns and sounds onto each loop where iKaossilator has 5 loops but only one sound per loop. So on iKaossilator you could record dozens of sounds but only 5 on the iKaossilator. Again, each has advantages and disadvantages and you have to decide what works best for you.

Price is a big difference. Build quality is also a concern. I had a Kaossilator 2 break after only a month where as the iKaossilator is just software. Kaossilator 2 doesn't last very long on batteries so the optional A/C adapter may be required. I hope some of this helps get you started but you have to think what it will be used for before choosing.

Thanks, price is definitely a factor for me, I'm a 13 year old producer with a very limited budget. I am looking for something that can let me layer a lot of sounds. I need something to use on the go. Something that is easy to use yet powerful. I'll probably save up like a bitch then go for Kaossilator Pro.

Can anyone give me a detailed side-by-side comparison of features and drawbacks of iKaossilator and Kaossilator 2?

GarageBand on iOS7 is free now. You should take a look at that. That might be a better choice for an up and coming producer. There are also a lot of other really good iPad apps for music. Animoog, Thor, Nave are among the apps that I use.

No, I'm not a professional producer or even an amateur one. I'm primarily a keyboard player who gets involved in other aspects of music as needed.

Oh ok fair enough, so you wouldn't be wanting to create a remix for me then?

I don't really have the time right now. Plus you would probably be better served by someone local to you who could help you learn the process.
