Question for Michael from SoundQuest

Post by peedeebee »

Hi Michael, 'hope your holidays were good. I'm wanting to use the SoundQuest Kronos Editor to manage program banks. Right now I'm getting "Program bank type conflicts" errors when trying to to copy a program preset from one EXi bank to another EXi bank. I think it's because the software isn't recognizing the program user-bank types correctly. Do you know of a way that I can correct this? Thanks for any thoughts you might have on this.

There is definitely some problems with incorrect recognition of sound banks. Often when I want to delete a program I right click with mouse and use "clear". Sometimes an incorrect preset appears in that cell.

Is the Set you are working on in the editor the same as the data in your Kronos?

Is the editor connected to the Kronos while you are doing this?

Yes to both of those questions. It's synchronized while I'm editing. (my OS is Mac, Mountain Lion by the way)

I'm guessing that I can't manually set the bank types in the software editor and that this is something that it does this automatically...

I think you're going to have to give me a concrete step-by-step example to try because we can certainly copy and paste between EXi banks here without an error. Also, choosing "Clear" is handled properly.

The one thing that the editor does rely on is a piece of status information from the instrument that tells it the format of each of the banks. If, for some reason, it isn't getting this information or the information that is returned is wrong then you might get the described behavior.

I get the "bank type conflict" error when trying to copy/paste between bank user DD and user EE. Copy/paste between banks FF and GG for example, works fine. The program user bank type settings on the Kronos X are:
EXi for banks AA,DD & EE
HD-1 for banks BB, CC, FF & GG

The software editor really seems to be behaving in a way where it "thinks" the user EE bank is an HD-1 bank.

What I would suggest you do is create a new Set and completely reload the data from the Kronos and see if the problem persists. if it doesn't then continue with the new file and delete the other. (Since you say everything is in sync, I'm assuming that the instrument has the same data as the editor so you can do this safely). If the problem persists, the best thing to do would probably be to get us a sample file and we can try it here to see what happens.

Reloading the data into a new set didn't do anything to improve it. But I did find a way to get everything working. Since the software editor was expecting a different user bank type configuration then I just changed my Kronos configuration to match that (first saving my sounds as a PCG file on the kronos hard drive so that I would be able to reload the banks individually).
In the global settings on the Kronos I set EXi for user banks AA thru DD and hd-1 for banks EE thru GG. Now everything seems to be working well.

The software is a big help when it comes to managing presets. Thanks!

I'll save my guesses as to what the issue was. Just glad to hear that you have a solution that is working.

I'm pretty sure that this issue is the same as one being discussed recently. The fix should be the same:

To correct this problem, please download the following zip file http://www.soundquest.org/Downloads/Mis ... Update.zip

The contents of the zip file must be placed in the following folder.

Macintosh: /Library/Application Support/Sound Quest/UniQuest Kronos 2/Instruments/Korg OASYS
Windows 32-bit: Program Files/KORG/KRONOS 2/Instruments/Korg OASYS
Windows 64-bit: Program Files (x86)/KORG/KRONOS 2/Instruments/Korg OASYS

The files you are copying will replace existing files so if you don't get a message to verify that the files be overwritten, you are placing the new files in the wrong place. Obviously, do not have the editor running while doing this.
