Hello folks. I am currently trying to decide on what to purchase between a Krome-7 vs MOXF-6. So I am asking for some good thoughts born out of user experience on this.
After researching all I can find for the last several months it seems to me I should ask if there are any inherent or problematic issues with the Krome's: OS and/or its keybed and/or its connection to a VST prog on a desktop PC. As I have read about every forum, review/comment I can find, these are repeated issues/comments I run across.
There are features I really like about the Krome and some on the MOXF. Sucks you can't have the best of several worlds so I am seeking knowledge from you who are 'in the know'. Anything you can elaborate on would be greatly appreciated.
I have been a bass player all my life, but now I have the urge to play much more than bass lines. Thank you
Krome 7

Thank you xp50player. For the last 2 months I have found myself leaning back and forth between Krome & MOXF. I have played with the Krome at a local Guitar Center store, but they don't have an MOXF for me to try as of yet.xp50player wrote:I would go with the Krome for the display alone, and the German D Grand Most of the other sounds are just as good as the MOXF, maybe not as glossy. I like the drum kits and guitars better in MOXF.
The biggest fear I have on the MOXF is it's tiny display screen and the learning curve. Plus I read various comments about Yamaha's various (or notorious) proprietary elements. I know it exists to varying degrees with all brands but it seems to be more of an issue with Yamaha than other brands as I've read.
Have you loaded any other sound kits/packs to your board?
Also, can the acoustic nylon string patch be tweaked enough to make it sound better than it's raw/weak un-tweaked sound? Perhaps some reverb and/or a bit of flange or treble control? The superior Yamaha raw/un-tweaked nylon string patch is what really makes me lean toward the MOXF. It would be an instrument I would use often on the keyboard I do purchase.

I don't own either, but I have tried them out in the store. I played through all the MOXF sounds, being familiar with most of the Krome stuff already. The acoustic guitars I have not tried to edit/improve, since the Kronos will load additional sample libraries, and there are better free sounds online. Many Kronos users are jealous of the Krome's sequencer with the piano- roll editor, if you intend to use that.

I have never played piano. Just toyed around with a few older synths I've owned over the years. That's why I am not interested in anything with graded hammer action. Synth action only for me...ergo the Krome 73 interest. To date the only Krome I've store demo'd is the 88 version. And I've watched/listened to EVERY YouTube vid on Krome/MOXF available.xp50player wrote:I don't own either, but I have tried them out in the store. Does anyone know if there is a workaround to the lack of slider feature on the Krome for balancing layered instruments volume?
