Streaming from usb,...is it possible?

Post by metallo »

I just got a 64Gb sandisk USB stick, it's one of the smallest usb sticks and I got it to plug into the kronos and leave it there for good :)

My question (silly maybe :) ) is: Is it possible to create a user bank on the stick and streaming the samples from there instead of the SSD?

I don't have my kronos with me now so I can't test it, it was just out of the curiosity :)

You can preload any saved Bank.KSC from a USB stick but only under Ram mode.
Save "sampling data mode" & "all" there , delete created _UserBank.KSC file , and set other KSC file in KSC-Autoload ,
but usb stick must be on board when booting else you have to manually load this KSC file.
System can read only connected SSD paths for streaming mode Ram preloaded samples.

Thanks to both.

AntonySharmman, yes I plan to leave the usb stick always connected, is so small you can't realize there is one plugged. The "problem" with your suggested approach is that if I have big samples (like I do actually with many of my sounds) I can't load them due to the small amount of ram.....streaming is the only way.

Pity....thanks btw for your answer :)

I really do not understand what's the meaning of reading samples from such a slow speed media as USB stick when
you have plenty of space in your SSD !
Even the smallest industrial SSD of 32 Gb of first Kronos can push your 3 Gb Ram to it's limits !
Kronos SSD should not be used as a storage place for SF2/Wav files , this is your USB stick/ext media job , try to preserve
there only loaded libraries and you'll never be out of space !

Well, I understand what you are saying, the problem is that I have 4 bands and for each of them I have my set of sounds.
I use a lot the kronos is different studios for jingle, band collaborations ets....and I'm currently using the SSD also for storage.

Well , piece of cake , purchase an extra 120 Gb SSD for Sata2 port and you can easily have 10 full Kronos extra Sets
with their preload KSC files in KSC Auto_load menu !
This is exactly what I'm doing for various Gigs and studios !

Is exactly what I'll do...I actually opened another thread asking for compatibility with a sandisk SSD 480GB.
I have a buddy that works in sandisk and I can have that ssd for a lot cheaper than in a shop.

Thanks again :)

I don't find an actual reason for not to be compatible , Kronos Asus media center mobo supports it , though I've tried up to 256 Gbs !

My only concern would be the size, will the kronos able to read the whole 480GB and there are some limits?

Since it reads 256 Gb , next limit could be at 512 Gbs !
Only someone that has tried it , can confirm for sure !

Yep, or 256 could be the limit, I mean, 256 is the max allowed.
