Electribe2 Another Simple Display Improvement Needed

Post by roblabs »

Quite surprised I've yet to read one gripe about this....ever notice that if you're in the Modulation or FX section....you can't read which selection you've chosen because it gets cut off at the bottom of the screen? A simple fix to increase real estate would work wonders here. I hate having to guess which effect or Modulation destination I've chosen.

Good point. The screen's potential is greatly underused. Anyone that's ever worked with a QY70 or RS7000/RM1x will know how much is possible with a decades old screen. It shows pots on screen, faders, and loads more. I was amazed when first saw how much (graphical) information they managed to get on such a tiny resolution screen.

Then again, I much rather see fixes and improvements in basics functions before adding more on screen information. I really hope 1.10 wasn't the last firmware update and that Korg will continue to sort out all the bugs and gripes and also make full use of the screens possibilities.

Time will tell I guess.

QY70 (possibly the most portable "groove box" ever made :D):

WoW, i have the same machine, i think iTS very underrated. The sounds arent that bad for such a small device. I have that thing to, iTS aimed toward normal music but you can do great stuff. Few years ago i posted this on soundcloud, but a few days ago i listened to Some tracks i made and ive made Some tracks Wich are much better. But you have to be creative, the door squak sound fx can also be used like that typical psytrance squak you here in a lot of psytrance.

I was also wondering: there are so many great features in that machine, it sounds great, iTS very portable, but have never seen machines like this, like we go back in time. Maybe this thing was to advanced? For house and dance music it is t that good but especially when you want Some 80s 'Miami Vice/synthpop/italodisco this machine is perfect. It has also features like the chord seperation, for making smoother chords, (not sure) groovetemplates, you can edit the amp attack/decay, the cuttoff, advanced effect parameters and a lot of instruments. Here is the soundcloud link, but yesterday i heard on my qy70 that i made Some better psytrance in the past but i cant record it right now:

I live n Holland, i bought it from another Guy in Holland for 50 euro's, ex shipping. That was in 2011. Dont know about the us. Yamaha has also a beter version, i think that was the qy100, you can plug your guitar in it and play along.

I think Thom Yorke and Bjork also use this thing for writing and performing. Sorry for derailing your thread rolabs

For 50 euro's you have had a pretty good deal Maarten! I really hope Korg will try to bring out the best of the display too, like on the QY70.

Yep, that's a PITA, i think a little left-to-right slow scrolling of the mod/fx names would do the trick.

As for the other remarks about the usage of the display, some of us old gits have eyes that aren't as sharp as they used to be. Even with my glasses, i struggle to read the button labels in less than ideal lighting. I like the new styling a great deal, but Korg messed up on the labeling, ok with time your fingers find the buttons without your eyes, but even so...

So for me, one of the redeeeming features IS the big, Fisher-Price, easy to read and uncluttered display. That Yamaha screen just looks bewildering to me, and poor Thom has got a bit of a squint on in that picture!! Or is that just my eyes fooling me...
If I'm not listening to music, or if I'm not making music, then I'm probably thinking about music.

Volca Sample, FM, Beats, Kick. OP-1, Monologue, Pocket Operators. And an ipad.

Trust me, when you know the qy 70 good enough, you can use it almost blindfolded. You have to try that machine, there is indeed a lot of menu-diving,
(you can see that it hasn't that much 'dedicated' buttons'. Its also great for making covers and backingtracks for songs. You can switch chords the easy way and there is a song mode so you can do covers of almost every song with the factory patterns when you can find the guitar tabs (the chords) of that particular song. How i describe the qy 70 to people who asked what it is: Imagine a 90s top of the line keyboard/workstation, with the speakers and the 'keyboard' stripped. Add the fun-factor of a gameboy and there you go:)

Haha, it does look he is having a hard time! But I only posted this as example of the possibilities of small screens. The screen in our E2 has a much higher resolution and could display the same amount of information without getting all cluttered.

I wouldn't mind if they added some overview screens so you can see the levels and other details of the 16 parts on the screen. Like being able to see how the panning is set, the volume and other stuff. You don't have to look it all the time, but as an option it would greatly help me. I like visual overviews rather than having to select each part to check the panning or other settings.

Never used the qy 300, but the qy300 is older. And the portability of the qy70 is the funfactor of the device. When you have a good vocalist you can make coversongs or things like weird all did in no time. If you want to make music for in clubs, you should use an electribe.
