PCG tools

Post by Jedi711 »

I started another thread as maybe someone can direct me to an older thread regarding combining a pcg file into another.Basically all I want to do is take a pcg file that contains a single combi and programs associated with the combi and place it where I have an empty slot(s)(both combi and program) within the original pcg file.

Have both .pcg files in disk mode. First *load the one you want to condense the other .pcg file content into and find the open slot(s) you want to use.
Then go to disk mode and *open the other .pcg file and *open all the way to the individual combi and or program you want to *load.
Load them one by one and it will appear among all the previously loaded .pcg file content. No loss to overwriting so long as you are loading individual slots from disk mode files into empty or pre-initialized slots of your choosing.

After all that, you can do a new .pcg save of your newly tailored .pcg set.
I suggest making the new .pcg save under a whole new file name so that you retain the first two .pcg files along with the newly formed one all at hand just in case things didn't go as planned or you decide to reorganize slots used all over again.
The most likely thing to go wrong is with the combi and its related programs ,drums and wave sequences.
If your 2 exisiting .pcg file dont have matching ordered slot content for programs, drums and wave sequences, then your final condensed .pcg save could have disorder related to the non corresponding slots. It can make the combi sound nothing like you knew it to be.
Check that the programs and the program's content that make up the combi and whatever else you want to capture in your final .pcg file, are banked and sloted in the same bank and slots as filed in both .pcg files.
So if your programs use drums, patterns and wave sequences from slots in banks of drums, patterns and wave sequences and maybe even samples, be sure the other .pcg file content has the same bank content in the same order.
The combi will be made up of programs that are linked to banks and slots. All those banks and slots have to be the same order in both versions of your .pcg files.
Since its just one Combi ir a few items, it may be ok to just make quick notes on what the programs are and what the wave sequences are in terms of their user or internal slots. Just in case you need to sort it out before creating yout final .pcg file out of the original 2 you want to condense.

Just keep the original 2 and add the third one under a new file name. And only when you see that the newest .pcg is exactly what you want, then delete the excess ones. I tend to keep 3 seperate .pcg files for shffling around stuff. One takes the brunt of the shuffling and risk while the other two are the factory .pcg that remains the same and the personal file i made to condense all my final choice organizing. I may even have more than 3 .pcg file some times before comdensing down into the two i use for workflow.
It can get really confuseing and send things askew all over the place if you dont keep a consistent order of programs in slots and their related wave sequences and drums and patterns. Also the maintained order of samples and ge in their slots determines that programs will be maintained in their intended sound form.
Nothing wrong with just keeping hoards of different .pcg files to capture sets of major changes if you ever get too busy mixing up the slot orders all over the banks of everything available in the kronos. Between the internal memory and usb media, storage space is as limited as how many usb sticks or how big of an external drive you can bring home. Unlimtied storage for files if you need.
I dont mix up the order of filled banks of any thing... Yet.
I use only the empty banks and slots for anything new, and then every time i add or append without changing the order of the previous content, i save to overwrite empty banks & slots only on my secondary .pcg file and then condense that to my primary .pcg file if i really need to. The factory .pcg is neither my primary nor secondary .pcg file. Its simply the factory backup file and remains locked and untouched other than to load from if i ever get lost and confused in editing that leads nowhere interesting.

Thanks for your response.I really appreciate it.I went through your steps and combined a pcg file that contains a combi with 4 programs in it.I loaded up the file I want to keep and then loaded up the file I want to add.In this case 1 combi,4 programs.I copied the combi to the main file first followed by the 4 programs. At this point,I am assuming that once I save the main pcg file for the Kronos, the PCG software with map the combi to the individual programs, wherever they may be.I then tried it on the Kronos and only 2 programs were there.I dont know why the others are not there. In a nutshell, enigmahack made me a pcg file for the song Blinded By The Light. He programmed 4 programs.First and foremost,a electic piano and a hammond. They are layered. They are present in the combi. Also programmed were a portamental synth and a female choir. They are present in the programs, but not in the combi.....Does the pcg software map everything automatically?
