I try to use portamento on some synth sounds, and I found them to be existing in the HD1 and MS20 engines (maybe there are other engines too?).
Anyway, I tried a few patches using the MS20 engine, but portamento does not seem to work (I changed the Poly/Mono setting to Mono, and set portamento to +10.0, the maximum value), but I don't hear any portamento effect. Did I miss something?
Portamento on MS-20 seems not working

Portamento on MS-20 seems not working

My favorite combi is based around a motion synth program "MS freewheeling pad".
It is based on MS-20. I went to common tab and then basic vector tab to see what SW and Knob assignments were set up. Portamento CC#65 was tied to SW1.
Then i went to EXi-1 tab and then to "OSC & filter" tab to see the portamento virtual knob and test it through max. and min.
No response until SW-1 was turned on because it's tied to the switch for engageing or disengaging portamento.
Turning on SW-1 solved it for me on the factory program named "MS freewheeling pad".
Maybe you will see in your program if its tied to something other than SW. Maybe a knob and maybe both.
I experimented and tied portamento CC#65 to knob five and then turned off SW-1 while SW-1 was still tied to CC#65. When i turned Knob 5 up, it automatically turned on SW-1(still tied to portamento CC#65) and engaged the portamento setting i had put in via the OSC & filter page. I saw "Portamento time" CC#5 on the list of CC# options -not the same portamento as CC#65.
Find what control your portamento is tied to and make sure it is turned up(knob) or on(SW).
Thats my best guess about it.

Thanks for your elaborate answer.
I changed also the value in the Ei-1 tab, OSC & filter, portamento knob. But indeed, I did not check SW1/CC#65. I will take a look into that.
Currently I use a +12 bend range for the pitch bend, controlled by the ribbon (which I have 'coupled' to a pedal). And I should check if I can do the same trick with a PolySix (since those sounds I like even better for what I need). But the MS20 is really cool too.

I didn't know about the control coupling capabilities until i started exploring in response to your question here, Cool stuff. I learned somethng new and will dig around more there.
Not sure how useful it will be but it sure was cool seeing SW-1 light up in response to turning knob five up, and getting the functions to follow through as well. Would be nice to have coupling function such that when i turn on the Kronos, it automatically turns on the sound system i have plugged into it, or is that being terribly lazy

Just want to add something I noticed. When using an MS-20 program with Portamento inside of a combi, it seemed that using the program settings yielded a different result inside the combi and I had to readjust manually on the track parameters. This may have been an anomaly due to some other setting, but I figured I'd float it out there.

I checked and it seems to work with the SW1.
Btw, I also had some similar obscurity when changing portamento time in HD1 (I think) in combi mode ... that I always have to save with SW1 (portamento time) set, otherwise it will not be audible.
Thanks for all comments!
