could you explain or give an example?

AFAIK ARP by definition is single note at a time.

i want to automate the whole chord, instead of the notes that make up one.
Kronos has a few options, but nothing that I found useful. would love to sequence my own patterns using my hand rhythm as a template.
(such as tap the rhythm)

picture yourself holding a chord. then imagine diff strumming possibility.
I dont want to strum though.
im not gonna be able to explain =(

Gating a chord might do the trick. The chords could be set up using the "chord pads" and then played using something like nanoPAD2.

nah...i rather just play it the way i do...and quantize it.
maybe my way is the only way. I always thought the chords sounded automated, I cant do it for the life of me

I think what you mean is a gated effect,
it can be done.
Try the karma gate effects (GE's).

If you want some advanced control you'd need to use karma software to create the custom GE and have it as you want it.

I did that a while back.

The Downside to this technique is that its impossible to mix chord types.

Typically you'd record a Chord Pattern (as melodic), import and then drum section turn NTT OFF.

That way it only transposes the Pattern depending on the note held.

I believe you can do that with the common step sequencer. Check out this tutorial: http://www.quirobinez.nl/tutorials-blog ... d-patterns

Thank you guys. Gated effect is exactly what im looking for, just didnt know it. I knew Qui had to have it, just saw gate in the video and was "nah".

My thoughts are why isnt there a device that does this? One with a freakload of patterns.
This method is gonna take a lot of time and experimentation.
Off i go...thanks

the step sequencer gate method goes quite fast once you've done it a few times.

There are lot's of trance gates plugins for the computer, but i never seen a hardware solution for it. You could use the iPad for it, there are apps that can do that, but it's quite complex to setup, because you have to route the sound through the iPad and then to the standard outputs (the iPad has to behave like an insert effect). It is possible (i have it, but very complex and not easy to explain).

So the most easy way to do it is the step sequencer, the gate plugins on the computer work in a similar way only then the developer already programmed a lot of patterns for you.

You could also do it through side chaining with a compressor. In that case create a custom drum track with the desired gate pattern and route that as an input source to the compressor on your pad sound. (see tutorial 5 on my site / channel for side chaining)

But in my opinion the step sequencer is the way to go.

Being as there is no arpeggiator in the Kronos you might want to look at Karma. There are so many different Karma effects I think you might be able to find one that does what you wanted to do. Try opening something like a piano combination or program and see what karma is set up to do. This might be easier than all the other effects that people are trying to get you to do.
