you should work for an electronics co to get some perspective on new expensive complex products and the time involved from concept to launch.

1 year isn't much time for a complex product. Apple probably had solid a project plans and costs about 3-5 months ago.

And look at the Kronos. I bet that took 2 years or more to pull together.
