Trying to add second storage drive to my Kronos

Post by blazerunner »

Hello,

I'm trying to add a second storage drive to my Kronos. I'm just curious if it has to be a SSD or can a regular Sata drive work?

I'm looking at a ...
Seagate BarraCuda 2TB Internal Hard Drive HDD – 3.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s 7200 RPM 256MB Cache 3.5-Inch (ST2000DM008/ST2000DMZ08)

Would something like that work on the Kronos?

What is recommended?

I think it will depend what you want to store on it. If trying to store libraries using virtual memory, it might be problematic. Even thought the drive claims 6GB/S, that is a burst speed from cache, sustained read is slower. There is also the issue of seek latency.

The HDD is also larger than the SSD that is in the Kronos, not sure you will be able to mount it.

If all you are storing is data that will be fully loaded into memory, it should be OK but slower.

Perhaps someone has tried it and can chime in.

Not only a HDD won't fit, it will quickly end up damaged as receiving lots of vibrations from a very close source - the keyboard.

Darn that sucks... thanks for setting me straight. I think I was confusing my Kronos with my Akai Force... it can take Sata or SSD's. Guess it's off to collecting cans for a solid state drive. :D
