Suggestions for external storage
I was curious as to which external hard drives seem to function/operate best with the Oasys. Please list your experiences/preferances with regards to this topic.
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!
I would like to have some more suggestions here as well.
And another thing reported in the backup-thread here: are there harddrives where I can copy complete folders without any problems? I read here, that it's best to transfere data one by one (no multiple checked) - but that does not seem very handy to me. I have many files in my "songs" folder and I would like to copy the whole folder instead of going into it and copy one file after the other ...

I never experienced problems when I copied complete folders with song files, samples and program files, over 10 gig.
I use Thosiba 250 gig and iomega 500 gig and different brands of usb sticks. Never crashed. For what it's worth.

I don't think that there should be any problems with copying whole folders or using multiple selection. Users here have noted that they have done so without problems, and I have done so as well. If anyone does find a specific problem, please report it.Charlie wrote:I would like to have some more suggestions here as well.![]()

As far as which drives work - any and all FAT32-formatted USB 2.0 hard drives should work.
Best regards,

Thanx for the infos, Dan. That's what I wanted to hear!
My concern was based on this thread: http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=31967
As Mike and another one experienced problems I thought there might be an issue. I'm relieved that there shouldn't be any and will get now my external drive. As I use the Oasys for everything I start running out of disk-space. I did regular backups on CDs - but it will be more comfortable with an external HD.

Charlie, it wasn't that big of an issue. Don't copy files, one at a time. Multiple Select is the way to go. In my case, I had a LOT of files to restore, because my O was re-formatted, so I tried copying them back to the OASYS in one shot. Dan and others seem to have no problem, but you may get a hang up, trying to copy 50 files, at once, or you may not.
At the least, you could use Multiple Select to break up your file transfer into 2 or 3 segments - say 15 files at a time. That is only if you can't do a one shot. It's still fast. All I got was a freeze. Turned off, turned on, then was on my merry way. The data was fine.

Well, thank you for the additional information, Mike.
I got some usefull tipps out of the quoted thread too (= the date-stamped back-up procedure), which seems good for backup-paranoids like me. A 500 GB Western HD is on its way to my Oasys and I dont expect any difficulties, as I will copy just one date-stamped-folder (containing many files

As Daz points out, have you used the "Scan Device" from the drop down menu in Disk Mode? I use both USB flash drives (1 GB to 8 GB variety) and a powered 250 GB USB external drive. Each time you change drives, you need to use that Scan Device utility. Then, you look for RDD choice(removable disk drive) in the drives menu. If you cannot see RDD, then I would say your HD has not been formatted properly.
