Hi,

yes its a minefield??. I believe the problem is that Oasys uses midi 2 which means that a lot of your old files probably have the drum track in the wrong position etc, also Mid exclusive can do some horrible and difficult things to the process. I hope that in the next major update that Korg will address this one, along with the number 1 requested upgrade that is the sequencing function. I hear the purists saying that its ok for them, but for most of us that just want to get to a quick resolvement, please can we make it more intuitive, and easier to navigate in these two area's. Dont get me wrong, everytime I have thought about replacing the big O, there is nothing there currently that surpases its quality, and other abilities, so I love it!!!! that doesn't mean that it cant be improved, and I hope that Korg not only, as they have done in the past will continue to improve this board, with both hardware and software upgrades, but keep it at the top of the tree, where it belongs

Manufacturers do not all put the "same" instruments in the same place except for what is known as "General Midi". General Midi was created to allow people to play songs created on one keyboard to be played on another.

Within "General Midi " all the instruments ARE arranged in the same order so note numbers will be the same when transferred for play on another synth/keyboard.

If the songs you down loaded were in "General Midi" (it has to say that), they should be playable using the Oasys in the internal general midi bank, labled Bank "G" with "GM" shown above it.

If the songs were not distributed in General Midi form then you can not play them unless you map each note from the song to a note on the Oasys or have exactly the same keyboard it was created on.

I'd suggest you search for materials that explain midi better. Google should have some results for you.
