KP3 Digital distortion glitch / bug [SOLVED]

I just bought the KP3.
It seems prone to randomly introducing a harsh, digital kind of distortion to the input signal that sounds like the bit depth has been reduced. Similar to a bit crusher effect, but this is clearly not an intentional effect. It seems more like there is something wrong with the A/D converter.
It does not matter what effect I'm using or what effect I might switch to while it's happening.
It will go away on its own after a while or sometimes vigorously switching back and forth between patches can make it go away.
Landing on certain patches (the vocoders for example) seem especially prone to getting it 'stuck' in this harsh, crappy sounding mode.
It's not just the monitoring of the signal that is effected by this, the bad sound will be recorded into the sample bank as well.
I have upgraded to the latest (2.0) OS.
Do I have a defective unit? Is this a known issue? Should I switch the OS to 1.03? Any help is much appreciated.
