Dubstep Kaossilator

Post by goacidia »

Hellow hellow,

I just bought a Kaossilator and I want to "make" dubstep on it. I just can't get the sound right.

Some tips ? best sound, bpm, using the gate or not...
Please say them very clear because this is all new for me.

for exmp: set to L15 > 70bpm ,....

I hope someone is kind enough to share this.

The DS-10 plus running on the DSi is better for dubstep than the Kaosillator because it has an LFO that can be synced to the BPM to control the wobble bass. You can think of the DS-10+ as a 12 track programmable Kaossilator.

you need a real synth to get a wobble bass.
simply connect the LFO to the frequency parameter of a low pass filter. with a kaossilator you are stuck with some presets and can't really program new sounds

he's right, hoever, coupled with a mini kp, you can get some heavyweight bass noises out of it

the kaossilator has some GREAT bass tones, don't get me wrong.
it does not however have a wobble bass preset nor any way to make one. i assume that's what you're looking for when you say dubstep.

"coupled with a mini kp, you can get some heavyweight bass noises out of it"

this is true, there's just no wobble...

sure, if you used one of the filters on the mini KP and had good timing you could probably do some great wobbles. that would be really hard for me, though, my timing sucks.

long story short, if you're looking to make specific sounds, you're going to need an actual synth.

Well, its possible to get some good sounds,

try cimbining the arps on the kaossillator with bass sounds 35, 37, 42 and 36... using a single note, i like F sharp

go up the pad to alter resonance or what ever the effect is on that particular bass

then.... slam that into your kpmini... use program 28 for lfo goodness.

this is some drum and bass i made today.. all the basses are from the koassillator into the kpmini, with some additional modulations from the kp3 (+ reverb in fruity loops on one of the bits)

ok, not dubstep.. but you get an idea of the capabilities

The Korg DS-10 plus is an actual synth. $29.99 + the cost of a DSi. I have an example of a dubstep test done on the DS-10:

Yeah, the drums were just filler. I was only demonstrating the wobble bass. I normally would use a completely different rhythm track, of course. On the DS-10, the drums are produced with the synth too, so there's a lot of range for making whatever kits you can do with the synth engine.

Do you need a DSi to play DS-10 or will the OG DS work?

Also what if you wired in a wah wah pedal to get the wobbles? IDK could give you an interesting effect?

The DSi has much better bass than the DS lite or older gens. The DSi or newer will also be required to run the double mode of the DS-10 plus software. The wobble bass isn't just a wah wah - it's synchronized to the beat, which is hard to do with your foot, considering most feet don't move back and forth fast enough to do keep up.

Yeah I see what you mean, but I have had luck with my morley power wah its hella vintage but doesn't work like a conventional wah when looped its hella sick cause it can control the speed of arpeggios.

IDK hard to explain but its sick for 1975 wah I found for 20 bucks at a pawn shop.
