MIDI with KPro but without a computer... Any ideas?

Post by Mr36 »

The PadKontrol is the only MIDI controller that I've read that can send the required CC messages to trigger the notes of the KPro.

Does anyone know of any other inexpensive controllers that are able to do this without a computer in between?

my guess is the kp3 will work too, kinda useless though
not sure of the exact midi implementation on the kpro but i think they're identical in that regard...

Yeah, I'd guess that it would too, but a KP3 wouldn't give any more precision to playing notes than the KPro...

lol, like i said, kinda useless. personally i don't see the point of playing the kpro with another input device. you're not going to get velocity or polyphony out of it. the touch pad is it's sole strength in terms of expressiveness, IMO.

back to your original question, i don't really know of any other hardware controller that could easily trigger the kpro without a computer..

Well, I'd use an external controller for ease of precision for more intricate melodies but it's by no means essential. I'm going to use a decent selection of other instruments for melodies anyway.

i guess that's what i meant - as long as you're not using the touchpad, you might as well be using a more expressive synth...

That is true and, like I said, I will be doing. But there are just a few sounds (the "acoustic" ones in particular) that I would like better control of because they sort of require it (fiddling and messing with the touchpad with those sounds won't necessarily yield good results like doing the same with most of the others) and I just like them as sounds in their own right.

Hey ho, PadKontrol it is (I go).

Can anyone confirm for me that the PadKontrol can actually be configured to control the KPro?
