Strange Note-Off problem Oasys/Logic

Post by Charlie »

I have a unique note-off problem between Oasys and Logic:

Oasys is linked via a simple midi-sport-UNO USB-interface to an iMac running Logic 9. After some time (let's say 1 hour working with both) I get the strange note-off problem. I play eg. f3, release the key, and it continous to play, although Logic displayed the note-off-Midi-event correctly. But Oasys keeps going. I can switch from one sound to another on the Oasys - the note keeps playing through all the program-changes.

The only way to switch it of is via sending an "reset all controllers" event with Logic. BUT: even after that, as soon as I hit the same key (eg f3) again, it doesn't note-off. It will continue playing until I send the reset again. This will stay until I reboot the Oasys.

Then after some time after the reboot I run into this problem again. But this time it might be a different key - eg. a4. And it will be ONLY a4 until I reboot again. It's quite annoying and I dont understand why there's always only ONE note having this problem and this note changes after a reboot.

Any suggestions?

No real reply since I don't use logic nor have I experienced anything similiar with pro-tools. It sounds like a midi loop, sort of. Any possibilities if that being the culprit?

Yes - that could be. But what could one do to stop it happening?

Do you have LOCAL set to ON or OFF?

Local off - to prevent midi-loops.

Hmm... I've experienced the same issue with Logic and my Oasys. I end up canceling the note on by switching from Combi to Program mode, but sometimes when I go back and play my track, that mysterious sustained note comes back.

Since I do a lot of production work that involves short (60 seconds or less) loops, I always thought it was a symptom of the loop mode in Logic. The sustained note on usually occurs on the first repeat of a loop section, and sometimes in record mode when I've played a note BEFORE the loop region begins. If that happens, pressing the same note (while in record) will cancel the note on message... but if I don't notice (b/c I'm playing a legato line, for instance) the sustained note will hold again on playback, as noted above.

Don't know if this is related to your issue as well, but I thought I'd throw it out there. I've tried all sorts of combinations of local on/off and controller filtering on the Oasys and from within Logic to troubleshoot, but haven't come up with an adequate solution yet.

It sounds a bit different to my problem. It has nothing to do with logic cycling a phrase. Actually Logic doesn't have to play at all. It is enough to hit the note on the keyboard of the Oasys - and as soon as it is "the" note (= the one that currently will be stuck) it plays for ever.

Someone in the logic-forum suggested to unplug the midi-interface once this happens. I'll try it the next time it happens. Could be a good advice, as logic always displays the note-off sign correctly when pressing "the" key on the Oasys. So maybe the midi-interface is the bad guy!

Problem is still alive. But I've narrowed it down. It only happens when I choose monophonic sounds on the Oasys. So in real life mostly bass-sounds. As soon as I change to a polyphonic sound note off works properly. But once I choose the same OR another monophonic sound the original hanging note is still there. Very weird ...

This sounds like it's related to Logic. However. Korg's technical support (Korg & More, in your area - see the link in my signature) might be able to help. Have you tried to contact them?
