Step Sequencer questions

Post by Kevin Nolan »

Hi -

I'd be grateful for any info on the following question from OASYS step sequencer experts.

1. What advantage does having per-voice step sequencers provide? Could you provide any practical applications? (I can envisage some but I'm only learning the sequencers now and would appreciate any insightful suggestions).

2. It says in parameter guide (pg 170) that the step sequencer will allow individual steps to "either gate or do sample-and-hold on a continuous AMS source, such as an LFO".

What does this mean - I cannot figure it out.

3. The next point "assign individual steps to create a random level" is equally confusing (but intriguing!!).

4. Modulating the start step via an AMS source - what does this allow for - practical suggestion?

To anyone from Korg (Dan??) given the imminent arrival of Kronos, a well written tutorial on Step Sequences - ala your excellent Mod-7 tutorial - would be really appreciated - as would a YouTube video demo or two. I'm only learning these now and get the feeling they offer unparalleled programming and performance possibilities, but some guidance on their usage would be really appreciated.

By the way - I think there's a typo on page 171 in the 'Smoothing' section - 1st sentence.

thanks,
Kevin.
