ESX and FL 9 Sync?
Im trying to sync my Esx to trigger playback in FL 9 Or vice versa (FL Controlling ESX playback). Is this even possible? If so can anyone walk me through it?
Hi, this is possible, you need a midi to usb. and you need to use fl's midi out.
let me know where you are getting stuck or what steps you are taking and i will try to help.
id suggest you check out youtube for connecting fl to midi device. it should give you a general idea.
you can also check out fl studio forums for more detailed help.

Go to the Global menu on the EMX. Hold shift and whatever pad is labeled "MIDI Utility". Use the dial to scroll to MIDI Filter. You will see the letters PCEN, which is Program, Control, Exclusive and Note. Use the dial to set all of these to X (closed) instead of O (open). Now you are only sending clock, without note and edit data.
Ok, you're incoming latency is too high. I am not familiar with FL's setup, so I can't give you a walkthrough. I do know, however, that I am virtually unable to sync Ableton to my ESX if the ESX is the master. I have much better luck if the ESX is the slave.. Try going MIDI out to the EMX from FL and see what happens.
Live tip: You need to go to the global menu on the EMX, dial down to clock and set it to "Auto". This way the clock will sync to any incoming MIDI, but will not completely stop if your computer crashes!

nice tip. never used auto before will be useful for me when I have both EMX's running parallel.sauce wrote:Ok, you're incoming latency is too high. I've syncd my EMX to FLstudio before but can't recall which was master or slave. I do recall that I did have latency issues so stopped syncing and just matched BPMs... beatmatched and it stayed in sync long enough for a track, but I wasn't doing it seriously, was just experimenting and my USB-MIDI cable isn't exactly top notch. When I've MIDI sync'd my MPC and EMX it only really works with EMX as master, for some reason when MPC is master and I hit play the EMX ALWAYS lags behind by a very noticeable amount (alot more than just a few milliseconds). EMX as master: no problem, hit play and EMX and MPC are dead on point.
If by some miracle I find some free time I can give FL - EMX integration another crack and maybe come up with some solutions.
