mini KAOSS PAD, KAOSSILATOR or something different?

Post by blue_sky »

Hi there,

first of all, I'm not looking for a really professional device - just something to play around with that fits in my pocket.

I was thinking about buying a Monotron because it actually has a keyboard where you can play distinct notes. (I have small fingers. ;)) But then, there is no possibility to do recording, and thus you can't do any looping with it.

There are also the mini KAOSS PAD and the KAOSSILATOR (not talking about the Pro version). So I was wondering if / how well you can play distinct notes on one of these?

Apparently, there is a grid mod, but I don't really feel like ruining my KAOSSILATOR due to lack of electronics skills. ;) Is there an official version of one of the KAOSS devices with such a grid? Are there any other suggestions?

Thanks a lot,
blue

Okay, so after a little more reading, it turns out that mini KAOSS PAD is for effects only. You can only modify sounds from a pre-existing source.

The KAOSSILATOR on the other hand has a "scales" feature which allows you to play notes in a particular scale. So I'm going to try out the KAOSSILATOR. :)

The Kaossilator 1 or 2?

The Kaossilator 2 is a huge step up from the first one.

Um, what's the difference, except that KAOSSILATOR 2 has 50 more sounds, SD card support and a touch slider? Does the KAOSSILATOR 2 sound much better?

Actually, I was going to buy a KAOSSILATOR 1, since I don't really need the SD card feature, and I was already impressed by the sound quality of the demos I heard with a KAOSSILATOR 1.

try em both. But Jingles is right. There's some important new features that the Kaossilator2 has. If i didn't own the original, i'd definitely buy the K2. You mentioned recording, and you can do that with 2, but not with the original.

Ah no, with recording I just meant live overdubbing.

50 more sounds (including drum kits), SD card support, a touch slider, a better (more informative) screen, better touchpad sensitivity, a built in mic and mic input, a speaker, the ability to shorten the ARP gate time, swing control and, most importantly, two sound banks... And yes, it sounds better than the original Kaossilator.

You can even record your performances and hang it around your neck.

Your choice though
