Can't get any sound from the Kaoss! ARRG!!

Post by GlowinGeometries »

Ok so I bought a Kaoss pad 3 like a month ago and I can't seem to get it to sound with a Little Phatty and I'm pretty much lost by now.

Here are the routings.

Little phatty output to input of the kaoss with their respective adapter (I got a "Y" rca adapter since the ouput of the phatty is mono 1/4) maybe this is why its not working properly

then the kaoss ouputs into 2 inputs of a focusrite saffire audio interface.

Can't get it to work.

On the other hand, it works on the mic line but I think that is not the best way to do it...

I got the kaoss on direct mode and everything is at nice gain levels and with good cables also.

Is there any feedback loop or some sort of cancelation on the audio input signal?

Excuse me for my poor english, its not my native language.

THank you so much in advance, hope you can help me find a solution to this since its driving me crazy not been able to play with it =(.

Test only one segment of the audio signal path at a time, starting from the source.

So the first step will be to test the connection from the synth to the KP3. You should use headphones on the KP3 to monitor the signal. You didn't specifically state or show the exact cable configuration you're using. You also need to turn up the input volume knob. Report what you hear from this first step. Don't expect anything to work later in the signal path (audio I/O box) until you know that the KP3 is receiving the audio properly from the synth.

Have you flicked the input switch over to 'Line'?

Ok so now I get it to work, but the audio signal going through the audio interface is mono? I see it only in one channel, is it because the phatty is sending a mono signal only? the same happened with the nord, the ouputs of the kp3 (red and white) are sent with two cables into two channels of the interface. is this the way it works? because when I load a drum sample from the onboard effects in kp3 the signal goes in stereo, but a synth doesn't.

Sounds like you have the wrong kind of Y-cable coming from your Phatty... Make sure it's actually a mono-jack-to-stereo-rca splitter, not a stereo-jack-to-stereo-rca converter...

if the KP3 samples are playing in stereo but the input sound isn't, then the problem is definitely between the Phatty & the KP3, not between the KP3 and the Focusrite.

thanks marcus, I am using this http://www.tyccomputer.cl/imagen/Articu ... 20plug.jpg as the adapter for the little phatty with the 1/4 plug adapter, is that the one causing the problem? I tried with another one exactly the same and i don't think it is a broken cable or something because with the 2 the sound remains in mono. thanks a lot, jim

that cable senbd a stereo signal to left and right outputs...you need one that is a mono signal to two outputs.

or just be ok with only putting in a mono signal...it is really not gaining you anything by doubling up a mono signal

Yup, that's your problem.

Notice that the plug on that one is stereo - it has three metal rings. You need one that goes from a mono plug to two RCA connectors.

Something like this:

Or this:

Notice how the jack has ONLY a tip and a sleeve - NOT a tip, ring and sleeve like the one you are using.
