From what I've been reading, this thing is pretty amazing. Run the CX3 output through one of the aux outputs, through this, and then either straight out to the mixer/house or back in stereo through the audio inputs....
I would LOVE to find a place locally that has one of these that I could sit down to compare this setup with KB3 in the Kurz PC3 (my current fave) or NI's B4.

Yup. I have a Motion Sound as well and feel it should be considered! Closest thing to a "Leslie" I've come across.billbaker wrote:For that money why not get a real rotating horn?

What about the Boss RT-20, what do people think of that?
I'm actually not that bothered by the built in CX rotary, it sits in the background of a mix quite nicely.. and I tend to turn off rotary and go for a soft slow flange for lead sounds.

The RT-20 is definitely not in the same league as the Ventilator, if you ask me.
I find the leslie effect itself quite usable in the CX3, it's the overdrive which needs some tuning. So if you consider a hardware addon, I'd go for a decent tube preamp or the Ventilator. It's the best available leslie clone IMHO - apart from those incorporating a real horn. But these Motion Sound things are still well behind a real leslie, so - for me - it's no alternative: You don't get the real sound and still have to carry a large and heavy box around.

The MotionSound Pro 145 is a full rotary speaker- bass and treble. It has a tube preamp, and options for biasing the tube. Built in mics- 2 for the horn & one for the bass. And plenty of tone control.

Yeah the overdrive on the CX3 really stinks, in general on the Kronos IMO.
Be REAL nice if we could get some upgrades there.
The ventilator is a reasonable (yet pricey!) solution in the meantime. It'd be cool if there was an option to setup the Audio outs and the mic preamps to be an ext fx loop. Though this would lose the vocoder if you're using it live.

Yea, that's the big thing for me - the overdrive. The CX3 sounds great for some gospel/jazzy sounds, but it's a mess when it comes to ballsy rock sounds. Whenever I play my Kurz (or the B4 for that matter), it just sounds more organic - the sound swirls and moves around in the upper registers... The CX3 always ends up just sounding somewhat "distorted" and flat when you get to the upper keys - very plastic sounding..Jens wrote:The RT-20 is definitely not in the same league as the Ventilator, if you ask me.

This option exist, I do it. But I run in back in mono because I need the vocoder.NuSkoolTone wrote:Yeah the overdrive on the CX3 really stinks, in general on the Kronos IMO.

I know, but I would not call this one a "leslie sim" - it's a real rotary speaker, but quite different sounding than a 147/122. I don't really like it. IMHO, it lacks some of the "woodyness" (maybe due to the small cab?), and the tube preamp sounds also a bit harsh to me.ronnfigg wrote:The MotionSound Pro 145 is a full rotary speaker- bass and treble. In my post, I was also referring to the older, smaller boxes like the Pro-3X - that's really neither fish nor fowl to me.
But anyway, of course you can go for a Pro 145 if you like the sound and have enough space in your trunk - it's a matter of taste.
P.S.: I wouldn't call the Ventilator "pricey" - it's perfectly aligned in terms of pricing with former competitors like the H&K Rotosphere or the ToneWorks G4.
