Bigger SDD: add as second drive or install OS on it?
Whats the consensus with adding a larger drive in a Kronos? Add as a second drive separate from the boot and factory folders? Or make the new drive the boot drive and put everything on it?

Adding a second drive is the best option by FAR...!!!!
Not only is it far less hassle, if you have critical files that are extremely important to you you can have a copy of them stored in both drives and not worry about having to do external backup often at all.

I have only the original kronos OS and factory files on disk 1 and all my backup and samples/sounds on my xtra SSD disc (120gb)
Should the original drive crash for any odd reason i have everything on a seperat disc
(not to mention my external HD backup and online backup, memorystick backup....)

also with the second drive option, if you DIY install it (which is not supported by Korg), you have the ability to easily remove the drive before sending it in for service, should you have any problems with your Kronos that require warranty work.

Well, I did it. Felt cheeky and put the 120Gb drive as sata 0. When I did the full install from the 1.0.6 DVD and booted with 1.0.6, the factory 30gb drive (sata 1) appeared as Unformatted. And after upgrading to 2.0.2 it was still unformatted. So the disk was wiped with the 1.0.6 full install! No biggie, everything was saved
But now the feeling of FREEDOM to load libraries and start audio recording...
Its even more Kronos and I haven't used a fraction of it yet.

Adding is by far the easiest option, not only for the reasons mentioned by Sharp, but also :
If you replace the drive as opposed to adding one, what is going to happen when you restart the Kronos to format teh drive and reinstall the system ? You're going to be stuck if installing a drive larger than 120 Gb because of the bug with the frozen progress bar.
So any replacement of the factory 30 Gb with a drive > 120 Gb means you still need to go the cloning and expansion route. Much more hassle !
Now, if you add a drive, because the original 30 Gb has OS 2.0.2, the latter can cope with formating drives > 120 Go. So no problem installing a 250 Gb SSD as a second drive.
The only thing is to pay attention to the connections on the motherboard, making sure that the startup drive is the one plugged on SATA0.
Another reason why I wish Korg would release a reinstall DVD with OS 2.0.2 as opposed to having to reinstall 1.0 and update the system.
