Recording Combi into Logic Pro on Mac

Post by JKH »

Hey there Wizards,

Looking for settings that allow combi to be recorded into Logic Pro on the Mac. I'm new to both Kronos and Logic, so I know very little.

Presently, Logic WILL recognize the Kronos if using a single voice. When playing a combi, Logic doesn't recognize ANY channels. It's as if it's not hooked up at all.

Also similar, but different is taking a recorded song in the Kronos sequencer and "playing" it into Logic. Can't get to work.

I'm sure there must be a simple answer to all of these issues.

Thanks in advance for your wisdom!

Are you trying to sum to a track or get each kronos track on it's own in logic?

Each Kronos track on it's own in Logic. If possible, does it have to be done "live" or can it be "played" from the recorded sequence into Logic? Ideally, I want to do both since I've got sequences that are complete.

If so, what settings for Kronos and Logic? I'll gladly pay to make this happen.

Thanks,
John

PS - I had "notify me when a reply is posted before," but didn't get notified. So, even though I've got it checked again, if you don't hear from me, you know why. I'll check back to the forum again to make sure.

Hey John,
I keep seeing this question and I have had this working for awhile. It can be a little hard to here though.
I am going to try and find time to put together a quick video or pdf or something that shows how to do it.

Bless your musical heart and soul! If there's anything I can do to facilitate that, please let me know.

Thanks for the fast response.

After digging around and talking with Korg I've made some progress, but still missing some settings.

With the two KRONOS steps below I can get Logic Pro to record all the channels simultaneously of a previously recorded Combi sequence by pressing Play.

KRONOS SETTINGS

1. Combi > MIDI > Timbre Parameter

2. Change each channel / track from INT to BTH

LOGIC SETTINGS

These settings are more mysterious. Korg suggested that the MIDI clock in Logic be synced. Reading the Kronos PDF only confused that issue for me.

WARNING: With these settings lacking the LOGIC SETTINGS all the programs in the Combi will get scrambled -- as in change to something completely different -- likely because Logic Pro is doing something cute with the MIDI data.

If anyone can offer more precise advice on this, I'd be grateful. Meanwhile, back to the lab.

Okay.

Here's another piece...

KRONOS SETTINGS

Global > MIDI > MIDI Clock > External USB

Supposedly there's a setting in LOGIC in Project Settings for it to be transmitting MIDI Clock to the Kronos’ MIDI port. Unfortunately, there are dozens of possible settings at that point, which again makes LOGIC a bit foggy.

Any other wizards available with smarts to guide this to conclusion?

Much appreciated.

The Logic part is this:

Preference > MIDI

Sync Tab
"MIDI Sync Project Settings" button on the bottom right

MIDI Clock > "Transmit Midi Clock" check box on

Depending on your setup you can transfer to everything or just your Kronos with the pulldown menu.

That did not complete the circuit, unfortunately. It made things worse by continuing to scramble program settings, AND -- this is a first for me -- froze my Kronos, even after disconnecting the MIDI USB.

By "freezing" my Kronos I do mean that. No matter what button I pushed the Kronos would not respond. Fortunately, I'd saved everything.

Any Sherlocks in the forum? Scotland Yard is stumped.

I just want to make music.

Froze your Kronos? What are you sending? This really isn't that difficult.
You just need one piece to be in control. If it is logic, that is how you send out midi clock.

If it's not that difficult then it would be pretty easy to write the steps out to configure this, right?
