What's the first thing you did with your Kronos?

Post by JPWC »

After plugging it in, and waiting the "what-seems-like-forever" while the thing boots up. You know, and sound comes out and is some what balanced.

What did you do? Record, Jam, freek out, make any adjustments?

I adjusted the touch sensitivity to my liking. Then proceeded to be overwhelmed by the full-well-rounded-excited-overpowered sound.

It took me almost a month to record the thing, it just sounded so great, I would not take the time to turn on the daw.

Oh, and I visited this forum just about every day for the last year and a half.

I've spent the last year with the Kronos (karma) at the center of my musical endeavors.

I read every doc I could fine, watch hours of YouTube (thanks to QR)

I bought the JP-80, and while it fun to play the Kronos is still my band.

Oh, and the worse thing - I am still playing factory or third party patches (prgs & combos) (again thanks to QR & KarmaLabs).

I upgraded my sound system for it, new KRK 10-3's, and a pair of Yamaha HM80's with 10" sub, which I center around the Kronos

I bought the analog-FOUR just to try and distract myself away from the Kronos. (it ain't working).

I need to get a handle on this thing, before they come out with something better.

Very first thing was simply go through the preset setlist followed by the combies, totally in aww at the sound. I spent what I thought was around 10 mins doing this, but it was hours.

Then I got my foot switch set up so that pressing it, it went to the next program or combi.

While doing that I changed the velocity curve, calibrated screen etc.

Then started to go through some of the programs. I don't think I moved a slider or knob in the first couple of days, simply too carried away with what was there.

Then I played around with the scenes etc in karma (had m3 so was used to it) on a few sounds.

Drove my loverly wife mad with me keep saying "listen to this"

Then I read a post, think it was by sharp, who mentioned the extra sounds on the SSD, found them and loaded them.

And before long two months had past and I hadn't done a single thing, not loaded up Cubase, not recorded on the Kronos sequencer, not played along with one of my native instruments komplete ultimate things, not anything at all, simply turned my Kronos on and wasted (spent pleasant hours) going through the program's/combies, finding a sound I like and having fun.

I say I didn't do a single thing, I did practice my piano playing on it most days too and did use sequencer mode when I did this so that I could use the sequencers metronome.

Yep - & I'm still doing that (& still getting the same eye rolling response  ) - though a couple of night's ago I did at least get the complaint that "I couldn't get that tune out of my head all night" - result!

The first thing I did was (after setting it up and connecting it) to play sounds ... all of them ... well at least some the first day. Needed months to try them all (briefly).

On the first day I followed the factory set list, checked out each of the sounds, tried the Karma and Drum button and was jamming. I can't exactly remember how long it took but it was like traveling in a time machine bubble where outside time was much faster.

Then I checked lots of the combis and programs to get an overview. Well, do I have it today? Not really - but a good feeling where to search if it get's down to select voices for combis.

The same day I learned to activate the sequencer - just to get some of the ideas recorded that came out of nothing. Or should I say - out of jamming with the Kronos? :D

1. Admiring it's 2 minutes booting session
2. Discovering and playing SGX for 4 hours
3. Looking at the analog engine sounds and tweak it with knobs.. It's not only my first professional keyboard (workstation), it's also my first hands-on-control synthesizer..
Love my kronos 88 :D
Love my yamaha psr s910 as well

Prayed like hell that it would boot up successfully, which it did. Works flawlessly. I love it. I love it. I love it.

Put RAM in it. Compared the SG1X piano to my SV-1, which I was perfectly happy with up to that point. Tried out the CX3 and Poly6/MS20 engines.

Took a lot of pictures during the unboxing, looking at the manual (although I had both the manual AND reference guides on my iPad in PDF format LONG before I got the money together, along with my other choices and their collective documentation)... let the cat PLAY in the empty box before folding it up to store in case it ever needed to go back to Korg, then the powers that be (my elderly parents) wanted me to hook it up and show off my limited beginner skills to see what I just spent a ton of money on. :D
