kp3 set up questions

Post by jwgallo »

just bought a kp3 and a tascam us122mkii, wondering what the best set up would be for re-sampling audio into ableton from the kaoss pad. i tried putting the line out on the tascam to the line in on the kaoss pad and the line out on the kaoss pad going to the speakers with a patch cord going from the headphone jack on the kaoss pad to the line in on the tascam. when i tried this i got some some feedback/static in the recording which i figured was probably because i have the headphone output going to the input.

so what would be the best way to integrate the kaoss pad into my set-up and route all the audio? should i put rca splitters on the kaoss pad line out so it can go to the speakers and the line in on the tascam? will i need to send audio to a second interface alongside the tascam which will go out to the kaoss pad and have the kaoss pad coming back into it? is there an easier solution im missing? im a little lost since this is the first time i've integrated anything but midi controllers into my set-up

As an effector? It's challenging to set up a loop like that without generating an endless feedback vortex. Would it be acceptable to have it run the audio "Computer -to- KP3 -to- speakers"? This means you won't be constantly multiplying the signal the way you would if you "fed it back" into itself.

Ultimately the signal can't be allowed to multiply, or re-effect itself. This is a fundamental tenet of audio engineering and it's not always easy to come up with a practical solution, but you can think your way through it.

i tried what you said (audio out from computer soundcard into kaoss pad, kaoss pad out to tascam, tascam out to speakers and also being used as the input for the computer) but it seems my computer soundcard is generating a lot of static going into the kaoss pad, much more than it did when it was going to the speakers before i bought the tascam or the kp3. am i going to have to buy a better soundcard or second audio interface for my computer to eliminate this problem?
