Can I change global settings from set list?

Post by Farmogoyf »

I'm guessing the answer is no here, but I simply want to have 2 set list slots, one that will have the combi that I will drive from my 88 key controller at velocity 5 (best for the 88 key controller) and 1 with a different combi that will have velocity 3 (best playing on my 61 key Kronos). The reason I want to do this is that there is a particular combi that I really love, but I can't get it to sound quite right on my 88 key Yamaha controller, and I need to switch to it quickly, and start playing it on the 61 key Korg, but I want the velocity global setting to change to match what sounds best on the Korg. Any way to make the set list patch remember a different global setting, or do I have to switch it manually?

The velocity curve setting only affects the internal keyboard.

You can change the curve through sysex. So, a possibility might be to have your controller send the sysex to change the curve on some patch. I don't know if your controller supports that or not.
Would still be a little bit manual, but less than going into global and making changes I think.

This doesn't change that the velocity curve only affects the internal keyboard. At least as far as I'm aware.

IF that is the case, then the answer would be to keep the Kronos set on 3 because changing it to 5 would not have an effect using the controller. Pretty easy.

Convert Position = PostMIDI will apply the curve to incoming MIDI notes. See Param. Guide page 772 for details.

Really? That's handy to know, thanks!

Btw it seems to me the only way to have the Kronos change its own global settings from setlist mode is by recording/planting the required sysex into a song and looping that back into the Kronos with a midi cable. On the whole much more effort than it's worth I'd say.

Perhaps the controller has its own velocity curve setting?
