Kurzweil Forte vs Kronos piano quality

Post by H.S.Lee »

I was so surprised that, Kurz Forte had 16GB of sound library.
That means, Forte's piano sound is better than Kronos SGX-1 ?
Anybody to compare ?

16GB for all of the following (as opposed to a 16GB Grand Piano) ?

The amount of GB doesn't really matter once you're talking about unlooped uncompressed stereo samples. If their piano has a sustain of on average a second more, you'd get a way larger library even though the quality could be the same. It could still be better, I'm not saying one way or another, but just because their total library is 16GB and the SGX1 grands are like 5GB each (?) that doesn't automatically mean one is better. Hell, many people still prefer the Nord or Yamaha pianos which aren't even anywhere near a single GB and use compression and looping (and a bunch of semi-physical modeling tricks).

I listened to the demos , they sound good , but a kind "muted in the cartoon box" . There still seem to be no audible release samples - no good staccato .
In Kronos you can add your own release samples.
It still sounds mostly like all those previous "non-gigabyted" kurzweils -
ugly and cheap . Absolutely not worth it's price .
It doesn't have SST .. It doesn't seem to provide such dynamics as Kronos does. Obviously the Kronos is still much and much better .

Even if Kurz's new piano is bigger, bigger size does not necessarily mean better. The flip of that is that there are people who prefer other pianos over Kronos (Nords, for example) even though they are much smaller. Size is only one factor. The only determination of whether the Forte piano is or isn't better than the Kronos piano is your ears and fingers, and probably, not everyone will agree about which is better.

Are you sure? Kurzweil has always had some form of that... Korg was basically playing catch-up in that department when they came out with the Kronos. Compared to the Kurzweil's I've used, Korg's implementation is a bit better in that it is more independent of effects limitations, but also still weaker in that a sound can't survive more than one transition.

Agreed.

And I also add that it depends on the sound you are used to.
If you have used a kronos for a while you get used to that sound and the others, at least at the beginning, will sound "worse" but they are just different.
