KP3 Sample bank wont reach 16 beats (only 1-2-4-8): Why?

I recently acquired a KP3 (not +) and it seems the sample bank wont allow me to sample at 16 beats consistently.

I press > Sampling button. Then toggle > Program nob to the right. The farthest it will let me reach is 8 beats.

Ive been noodling around with the controls and i did manage to reach 16 beats once, somehow, not sure how I achieved that, and I cant seem to replicate it. Is this a program glitch or user error? If user error, what can I do to reach 16 beats?

Full disclosure: I am just learning my way around the machine but I've read much of the manual and watched several beginner tutorials.

Any guidance would be sincerely appreciated.

what's the tempo? the length is cut in half (down to 8 beats) when the tempo goes below 73bpm (i think).

I dont recall what the tempo was but I seemed to have solved the problem for now by reinstalling the firmware
