Should I buy a Kronos

Hi I wanted to aske the Kronos user community what folks thought about the new Kronos 3.0. Having seen alot of discussion about the unit with 3.0 OS , I am considering upgrading to a Kronos 88 to eventually replace or combine with my Roland Triton Extreme. I love both units.

I researched both Yamaha Motif SX and latest Roland. Not too impressed with the Roland G or event the latest Roland Jupiter 80.

I play in a cover band and use a Roland Fantom X 88 and a Triton Exreme 61 midi d together. I have created specialized patches related to specifi songs on each unit for a particular song performance. I have to cover horn, syn, string, EP and Orchastra parts as well. I also to some limited studio production work for scores and originals.

Does the Kronos come loaded with various patches and combinations as the Triton Extreme.

The fantom x 88 and Triton Extrmem are both older technology but they work for me.

I am thinking of purchasing a Kronos 88 for live performance and using it with the older Triton extreme. Using the new Kronos 88 as the slave unit.
Any sage advice.

The only thing the Extreme has that the Kronos does not is the tube. I think you'll find that the Kronos will give you all the sounds you had on the Triton but updated to a better quality. If you are going for the Kronos 88 than the Triton 61 would make an very good controller for playing synth and organ from the Kronos sound engines.

1) Yes, but the Combis and Programs ( not patches) are different than your extreme. There is no auto conversion of sound banks between the boards.

2) I think you might be holding onto the extreme too tightly. I had the 76 version w/Moss and loved it. But the Kronos will take over your sound. Let it happen. The extreme LCD will not last forever, thus I recommend you sell it As soon as you are ready.

3) I don't agree with having 2 88's. One will more than suffice , assuming its a Kronos. If you have to have some roland sounds, there are simpler ways to have them

If you need to cover some Roland sounds, I suggest you pick up an Integra7 rack unit and use it in combination with the Kronos. I do and it works a treat.

I'm actually quite sure that you can easily find sounds that are very close to the Roland sounds here in the Forum. We have a lot of exceptional programmers and there are a ton of sounds you can download for free or for a minimal fee.

I also don't think you should go for 2 weighted keyboards unless you don't play any organ patches and probably never will. I love the organ sounds on my K73 but the weighted keyboard beats up my hands. Especially doing slides and palm smeers. If I have a gig that is organ heavy, I'll bring my King Korg and have it midied to my Kronos and use it for organ stuff.
