Hey guys, as I'm reading the manual about the beast!

Lol

I've had the Kronos X for a little over a year. And because of my work I don't have the time to read the manual. Also good videos are more entertaining to me… not that I would not put in the work to learn the animal. Lol

I agree that videos are good. More would be better.

Unfortunately many 'tutorials' that I have watched are far from being tutorials. Often it is hard to see what the person is doing, and often harder to understand why they are doing it. The best ones show you what (a specific goal to achieve on the kronos), where (what menu or screen to go to), how (clearly showing what adjustments and menu items to change), and why (so you can actually understand it). This means that good tutorials have to be focused and relatively short.

I know I'm supposed to, but I rarely read manuals. I find they generally just confuse the heck out of me. Most of the time I'm looking for an answer to a specific question and since manuals aren't written with that in mind I find it far better to just ask the question.

One of the things that I find confusing as a new user, is the complexity of setting a reverb. This is good --- I like to have lots of options, and the Kronos has them, but I can't seem to get a good grasp of how to set diffusion, pre-equalizer, delay, etc. Even after reading the parameter guide I find it somewhat confusing. Previous pianos that I've had, have had very basic controls: wetness, hall size, amount...you didn't have to think much!

To me, the perfect tutorial takes a small chunk like reverb, and explains it in 5 to 10 minutes using an example right on the Kronos.

Just my opinion, but neither video very good. The first is a general primer on reverb - which is okay if that is what you want. It doesn't cover the Kronos, nor half of the kronos reverb capabilities. The second, well.....

But I appreciate the suggestions

I think he may have been trying to give you general information about reverbs then you just translate the concepts to the Kronos.

i could easily help you with routing within the Kronos... but I guess you have to know about the terminology to be able to make it all work or at least understanding what you are doing.

This I think is where a lot of manuals fail. Also maybe some instructional videos. The terminology. I know from past experience with my Cubase software that sometimes what it is called on my screen is not the same thing in the manual or video. Too bad there isn't a general agreement on the names of things.

Exactly! I'm currently running through some very good tutorials called Syntorial (Apple App Store). But they are based on the Moog Voyager - which is different. It is largely applicable to my Moog 37, so I like them. They are specific, and have exercises.

The issue I have is the terminology and complexity of Kronos. The Kronos being complex is a good thing --- it is what experienced workstation folks want --- lots of options, and a powerful set of music enhancements. However, this means screens like the Overb contain a lot of 'stuff' that may not be normally seen on simpler reverb units. Like diffusion, or pre-EQ, and band cross-overs. The manual kinda explains these at a high level - but not with practical applications.

Hi Apex - that's the issue. (And not just with reverb but even things like compression, delay, etc). I understand the very basic concepts of reverb -- in fact probably better than the general population, but the Kronos screens are more complicated than the basics - with things like diffusion, and pre-EQ. A tutorial showing how these work in context of a real song would be amazing - as long as the audience can clearly see what is being done and why.

My comments were meant to be general, with reverb only as an example. In most cases, the kronos is way more complicated than the basics (which is very good but makes it harder to learn).

I applaud your efforts and have watched your videos. Thank you! I'm not sure what you primarily use the Kronos for but I love videos that pertain to sound design. Wouldn't mind one that followed your thought process through the creation of either a particular sound, or of the creation of a song, from inception to final output.

If that's too broad brush, wouldn't mind seeing a video that walked through sampling and how to import samples into the Kronos from various sources....such as, what's a good way to take a file from a PC (mp3, wav etc) and bring it into the Kronos, slice it up and loop it etc?

How can you then take that sample and assign it to a note on the keyboard...say the lowest possible note.
