I'm not sure we disagree...so much...
I'm really not sure where you stand on the OP question. You say with the same PCG they sound almost the same...but, the Oasys has converters on par with Benchmark...which would mean the Kronos does (to your ear)...? But, then you mention you don't think they're quite the same quality.
It doesn't matter which has better converters to me. It's not like they have the same sounds to start with.

I have an OASYS and KRONOS on two tiers of a keyboard stand, and I hear no difference when playing identical sounds. (As noted, some Combis on the KRONOS have been changed from the OASYS versions.)Rocness wrote:The kronos sound does not have the WOW! factor like The Oasys sound .
The Oasys sound has more weight to it and has this beautiful sparkle in HD layered on top .You can hear it more when the sound has movement to it.
This doesn't surprise me, since the OASYS and KRONOS use the same algorithms (for those engines present on both products), the same samples (again, for those samples present on both products) and the same D/A hardware. It's possible that there is some small variation in the analog part of the hardware, but if so it appears to have no noticeable effect.
The OASYS does look more impressive! Research has shown that people think that brandy presented in a nicer-shaped bottle *tastes* better than the same brandy in a less-attractive bottle. Not just *is* better or *looks* better, but *tastes* better. I'm certain that such biases play a part in evaluation of almost anything, synths included.

And most audience cannot even hear the different between a Korg M1 and a Kronos when it is played live in a band.
Btw this is not the fault of Korg
Luckily musicians here the difference better and among musicians keyboardists are the best listeners
. (no offense for other musicians, well ... maybe a little bit).

Dan, your right, The Oasys is more like fine brandy in a fine bottle dressed for Royalty ,danatkorg wrote:Rocness wrote:The kronos sound does not have the WOW! factor like The Oasys sound .

the Kronos is fine brandy in a broken bottle dressed for a smoky small bar (which some people like and that's cool) .
I'll take Oasys because just like all fine cognacs it just gets better with time .As for the other well it's good for a darn good one night stand .
Thanks for clearing that up for me .
Peace
After you loose your last illusion about the Oasys-Kronos comparison, you try to escape into cosmetics, feeling "dressed for royalty"???
I prefer my not at all broken Kronos any time, and wouldn't exchange it against two "like new" Oasys boards.
The reason is simple: I use it for decisively advanced music technolgy, and not to be "dressed for royalty". How funny is that?

Do you really want to mention your problem into every thread?

Great picture, and the Oasys is a fine board.Dany wrote:Let's see, how many of the "decisively advanced" Kronos will survive the OASYS tank in the comming years....-
But in the meantime I'm making music with the advanced Kronos possibilities, instead of looking at my gear all the time or taking photos. If it survives the next five years (which it will, without or with guarantee and/or repair), I will have no problems having a look at it's successor.

So what do I want from an Oasys for now, playing a Kronos?
Nothing.

I think we should all just enjoy these outstanding sounding instruments.
All those "OASYS vs Kronos" kind of arguments are finally caused and home-made by KORG Japan Inc.'s own bizarre policy. (No support for OpenArchitectureSYS and questionable quality control of Kronos, while OASYS was three times the price of Kronos)
I hope your Kronos will last for many, many years!!!

Thanks for the nice reply.
And yes, you are absolutely right: we should enjoy either board.
All the best for your music making as well!
