Kronos 2 and QR and stesco Combis prog

Post by Kronosx_31 »

Hello Everybody,

I've buy the new Kronos.

But when i want to install the Combis and prog from QR and Stesco (JMJ pack),
they don't work because the new kronos has not the same sound implementation.

What should i do to modify the combis and prog to be used with the new Kronos?

I try PCG tools but i should say that i don't understand all the functions.

Thanks for your help.

From my head (not near my regular PC), you can change the setting for copy/paste to use SIMILARLY named programs for copy/pasting.

Than you can open your own PCG file and the others (QR / Dan Stesco) and copy combis/programs from them to your own.

Always make a backup before!

Hi,
I've just bought a V2 Kronos and was wondering if there was an idiots guide to using your PCG software?
Are there any "beginner" videos around showing the actual functions of your
(what looks like brilliant/ v helpful) software?
And by beginner video/write-up, I mean...literally loading your software.(PC?)...then showing the screen when your Kronos has loaded...then perhaps loading a set of new sounds into the Kronos and then moving them around inside your program...finally saving the new sounds in the Kronos and saving the old sounds/set up into your PCG tools for future reference...
Please forgive me if this sounds greedy, but I'm dead scared of screwing my brand new Kronos up.......although I should be able to find my way around saving my present set up... I would dearly like to use your software with confidence. If a video/ write-up exists, would you kindly point me in the right direction to find it?
Many thanks

You can search on youtube for PCG Tools, there are a few videos (not created by me), some are in Portuguese but still show the functionality.

Also I made a manual (but it is reasonably big); it can be downloaded from the website (http://pcgtools.mkspace.nl).

I don't know if the video show all this in detail. But the workflow can be found in the manual (just one page I think), in short:

- Install PCG Tools on your PC (just click link, follow instructions).
- Start PCG Tools.

Afterwards:
- Save PCG file from your synth to a USB stick (or similar)
- MAKE A BACKUP
- Load PCG file in PCG Tools
- Use it (whatever function you need)
- Save PCG File (not overwriting the original/backup) to USB stick
- Load PCG from USB Stick on your synth

PCG Tools ONLY affects the PCG file, sample files never are changed.
In case something is wrong: load you backup PCG file in your synth.

I think i've anwered your questions already through my website, but if it was someone else, here's the info (and some extra info about how to cope with version 1 and X soundfiles on a kronos 2)

Let me start by describing the problems you will have on a kronos 2 when you try to load program and combi soundsets which were designed for the Kronos 1 or Kronos X:

Since the program order of the Kronos 2 is different, none of the combi collections will work. Program soundsets do work, but in all the program soundsets the drumtrack won't work anymore.

So basically these are the two problems you may encounter.

Now how can you solve this?

Solution 1:
this solution will Always work!
- Create a backup of your current Kronos 2 Soundset (see the video below how to create a backup)
- once you have done this you can do anything you want on your kronos 2, but you will be sure that you can revert to your current kronos 2 at any moment by just loading the Backup again. So that makes experimenting quite convenient
- Now the most important step: On your Kronos 2 SSD look for the EXTRA Folder. In this folder you will find the Kronos X program order preload file. It transforms the program order of your kronos 2 to the program order of the kronos X with the new kronos 2 sounds located at the end in free user banks instead of the first banks.
- Load this Preload set
- Now load any version 1 or X soundset (programs or combi) from me or other sound designers.
- Now everything works as expected because you have the Original program order again!
- If you want you can create a system backup again (or just the sounds) with the name of the sound designer: Like QRSounds for instance. Then you can load that anytime you want.

Solution 2:
Loading programs in a kronos 2 will work but the drumtracks aren't working.
- you can solve this by opening each program and reassign the drumtrack to the new drumtrack location. Then save the program again.
- Combi's don't work. Every program location in a combi should be pointed to the new program location. Now for the combi's i create i wouldn't recommend that doing yourself. To achieve the sound in my combis i use the tonecontrol a lot, so you have to modify each parameter yourself then to achieve the same sound. That's almost impossible to do in my opinion. (tone controls settings are reset when selecting a different program in the combi), so for combis i think solution 1 is your best option for now.

Solution 3:
- wait till the new kronos 2 versions are ready for download. Eventually these will come available, but keep in mind that it takes a lot of time to convert them manually.

Hope this helps a little bit understanding the issues you will face when you have a kronos 2 with the new different program locations.

Hi,
Thanks Michel!
I've found one video showing your new version...in Spanish! But it does help a little...
Didn't know about the manual, that will be very helpful.
Thanks again for being so quick with your reply.

Ps I've just seen that Qui has also replied to the original post...What a fantastic community! This place is outrageously generous.

You're welcome.

And Qui knows a lot about PCG management too (and he makes great videos and sounds too).
