Video tutorial: KARMA Programming

Post by QuiRobinez »

Korg Kronos Tutorial KARMA Programming

I've got some questions from people that find it hard to start with the KARMA engine to create their own KARMA Arpeggiator patterns. It's true that it can get rather complicated but the basics isn't that hard to learn.

The Kronos has a big touchscreen with all the basic controls you need. So the only thing you need to know is which controls you should use for creating your own patterns and what they do.

That's what i tried to do in this tutorial. I'm programming a trance arpeggiator in this tutorial, but every arpeggiator style is possible once you know the basics of KARMA controls.

Video details:
How to program your first KARMA GE Arpeggiator for Trance Music for absolute beginners

Step by step explanation of the most basic parameters of building a KARMA Trance Arpeggiator. After watching this video you should be able to create basic KARMA arp patterns yourself.

you can find the video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvAZqstk5E8

It's for absolute KARMA beginners. So I hope you like it and can use KARMA in a better way after watching the video.

Thanks !

the next video will be an intermediate level where i will show the most important parameters and their settings and how to change them.

for instance you can switch the rythm of the arp from 16ths to 8ths or 4ths or even to triplets by setting some parameters and connecting them to one of the switches. That will be in the next video.

Would this apply to the M3 as well?

Yes, the KARMA engine is the same. Only use a different sound, but the rest is the same.

I thought that since the Kronos has more information and parameters available per screen, it might be confusing and/or tedious to watch this and program KARMA on the M3.

Wow, thanks for this introduction. [-o<

I have postponed using Karma so far (busy with other things), because I thought it would steal to much time. But this is a real invitation to just start playing around with it, even without the software editor!

Yes, the screens are a little bit different on the m3, but the KARMA faders are also on the M3 and are working the same.

I went through your video pausing to follow the points and found that most helpful. Learned quite a bit.

I'd recommend this to all those trying to come to grips with Karma.

Once again, many thanks to Grobinez!

I'm really glad that you find it helpful. I will post more tutorials online in the future where more difficult parts from KARMA will be discussed.

This one is focused on monophonic Arpeggiators and suited for people that start for the first time with KARMA programming.

The next one will focus on polyphonic arpeggiators and is more difficult to follow because there is some actual programming involved instead of just using faders and knobs. For instance a large part of the next tutorial will explain the KARMA Cluster method and how to program the cluster behaviour for the KARMA algorithm. (Clusters are generated groups of notes, like chords)

it takes time to create these kind of video tutorials, but it's good to know that people actually can use these kind of tutorials, that makes it worthwhile for me to spend time on it.

Great work Grobinez, thanks! :D

It's amazing how much power Karma has, once you overcome the fear of the huge amount of parameters to tweak.

Good stuff. So far I've left KARMA alone, but that instruction video made me switch on my Kronos and dive into the KARMA section. More video's are very welcome! :)
