I have to admit that I'm a geezer so not really familiar with 30 Seconds To Mars. The R3 is a good choice if you are strictly looking for analog type sounds. I think the R3 is more suited for a "top rack" synth especially given the fact it has only a 3 octave keyboard. My R3 sets above my Roland ...
