You can use external MIDI or USB MIDI controllers to do this via the Global P2-3:Function Assign page. Thanks I will look into midi controllers that would be light and portable. Dedicated octave soft switch as well please!!!

Myself, I only need octave transpose on piano sounds so I use the SW's. If I needed to do it elsewhere I'm just do it with pre-programmed sounds in set-list mode using my footswitch. That way I don't have to take a hand off of the keyboard. True with piano sounds...That is mostly the case. Althpugh ...

Was curious if there is a tap tempo function on the Microstation? It looks like you can set up a switch pedal for tap tempo but im unable to find an answer as if there is on on the actual keyboard.
