It HAD to end that way. It just had to. And I definitely had to fish around for that chord because I didn't know what it was, but I could hear it in my head, and I had no idea what the notes should be. But I think I found it! No other chord would work, and I'm glad you noticed it. :-)

Mistakes Were Made (5/4 spy)

The spy genre and the 5/4 time signature seem to go together pretty well. Not entirely sure why that is, but I still tend to lean into it a bit.

Thanks! At first 5/4 was a little tricky, but once I got the hang of I started to wonder why no one else is writing in this time signature. People used to tell me that you couldn't write music in 5/4 for a variety of suspect reasons, the main one being that 5/4 is "irregular" or "uneven". That's ...

5/4 Only

Hi everyone! I used to be a real regular around here in the early 2000's, and then kind of drifted away. I gotta say, it's been ages. AGES. But my logon is still good! It uses an ancient password that I'm being told by Google has been compromised, but what the heck - I got no financial information ...

I think some people don't realize this thread is fourteen years old. I don't know when the last time I was here was, but I have a feeling it's been a VERY long time - possibly ten years or more. And yet... I responded to this very thread on the very first page, back in 2007! So it's funny to see ...

My first synth was a Roland Juno-6, bought used in 1985. Note: this was the 6. There was nothing programmable about this box. You couldn't even save patches on it - you simply had to remember how to configure all the sliders. You want a guitar sound? OK, um, we set the frequency slider to about ...

DX-7. In the mid-80's, that was THE synth that Keyboard Magazine featured article after article about. My Juno-6 was starting to look a bit long in the tooth as I read about the DX-7. It was "FM", whatever that was. New. That was all I knew about it. I'd never even heard one; just seen the endless ...

Flashes Overhead

Flashes Overhead. Top of the list.

All done on a new set of speakers, which (I think) let me do a pretty decent mix.

Shifting Momentum

Well. It's been about two years since I posted a song (i.e., finished a song). I haven't been around much, and I see a lot of new faces, so, hi everyone! To everyone I DO know: hi everyone! Anyway, new song: Shifting Momentum I slot it into the electronica genre, but that's about as close as I can ...

I went from hardware synths to virtual five or six years ago, and never looked back. I own a Triton Classic, Karma, and a Yamaha SY-77. I moved houses over two years ago, and still haven't unpacked any of them. I use Reason 4 most of the time, although I'm really getting into NI Komplete 6 coupled ...

I just started using it last week. All I can say is WOW. This program is incredible. In combination with NI Komplete 6, Reaper makes me (almost) not want to go back to Reason (and those who know me know what that means!). The license is $60 (for a "noncommercial" user - which, according to the site ...
