I agree with MarPabl. You are comparing two different types of synth keyboards. However, since you are on a tight budget you might want to look for an Akai Miniak synth for a starter keyboard. It is essentially a preset machine, but you can tweak the sounds. It is in no way comparable to either an ...

No Problem! BTW---How do you like your microKEY? I purchased mine looking for a simple compact keyboard for use at home and when I travel. Now that I have become used to the key spacing, I really like it. Some folks on this forum don't seem to like Korg's mini-key products, but I'm thinking that ...

Be careful. I checked the instruction sheet that came with the microKEY, it states that the intergral hub cannot supply more than 100mA of current. That is not very much power at all. The hub is intended to support the nano-series of devices. A while back, I tried plugging-in a non-Korg USB device ...

MIDI In and Out is provided by the USB port on this series of controllers. Having the 5-pin connections would be nice, but it would also raise the price. It looks like Korg is watching their pennies here. I have the 37-key model. For what it does, its pretty good. For my purposes, MIDI over USB is ...

The only exposure to the MiniBrute I have is looking an listening to it on U-Tube. However, considering the price-point Arturia is selling this synth, my guess is that the pots and faders are probably not very robust. As with all consumer products, you get what you pay for. Since the maker of any ...

Another possible reason probably involves the way the CPU is utilized in each system. Even though the CPU in a typical Mac or PC is fast and powerful relative to the CPU in a hardware VA, the hardware VA uses a processor matched to dedicated software to produce sound. This system uses ALL of its ...

I was tinkering with one at GC a couple of weeks ago. My impression was that the controller is very sturdy as far as structure is concerned. The knobs and sliders look like they are robust and will be reliable for years if it given reasonable care. It sure looks nice! I was not so impressed with the ...

I know that this thread is starting to get old, but I stumbled onto it and thought I would post a reply. Different people come to this forum looking for different things. I am pretty new to synthesis, although I have been playing musical instruments for years. I find that reading the questions and ...

My reason for getting a VA synth vs. a DAW is a matter of portability and immediacy. I'm aware that internally a VA synth is software running on a dedicated computer with its own specific-to-purpose operating system feeding a signal to a DAC to make a signal for amplification. However, sitting down ...

Hello Everyone, Just to close-out this thread, I purchased the Akai Miniak synth. The price was right for a beginner, it's a very well-built unit, and it just feels good to play. Yes it has some control limitations, but for my purposes right now, it is fine---and by the way, the sound quality is ...

I am looking at a budget VA synth; price range US $400 - $800 preferably new with a warranty. Being brand-new to this, I like the idea of having the mfg coverage (also having a "base line" of what to expect with a product). I will probably purchase it from Sweetwater Sound as they cover their sales ...
