Damper pedal "Calibration Error"

My pa2xPro: When I try to set the damper pedal calibration, after doing so, (or so I think), I get a popup saying "Calibration Error - Out of Range. Retry. OK". Never saw this one before. Nothing in the manual, couldn't find anything here. How can it be 'out of range'? It's connected by a six-foot ...

Ah, Obe Wan Karmathanever. Thank you so much, Pete, for your response; once again, your comments were helpful. The Style was "Country 3/4". On the offending tracks of the bass and the piano, I found CC (Value 1) 10 events. In the case of the Style bass instrument (Fretless Bass 2), they appeared ...

Jumping pans - they won't stay!

I'm working with the sequencer of the 2X. The song includes some instruments from Style Play as well as tracks that I played and recorded. I'm moving the tracks from the 2X over to a DAT tape machine, where I'll add vocals, etc. To separate out individual tracks or grouped tracks, I've assigned some ...

Now I'm Just Playing With It...

NOW I’M JUST PLAYING WITH IT I was up ‘til the wee hours last night playing with it. Thought I was gonna hurt myself, but thankfully, no blisters. Not that. And I’m not referring to playing guitar, or even the Pa2XPro, (although they were in use at the time). I got into playing specifically with the ...

wow! looks like you made a serious progress in this area. Congrats! A note about partials and harmonics: If you could figure out a way to filter out all low velocity pitched or non-pitched sonic material that your guitar produces, then you would have more accurate results. Say, you could set the ...

You have to develop a completely different style in order to get the notes right. MORE ABOUT DRIVING THE ARRANGER WITH A MIDI GUITAR. I’ve had more opportunity to play with this set-up since my last post, so I’ll report some additional observations. The first one is: this IS a lot of fun. When pla ...

You have to develop a completely different style in order to get the notes right. I'm sure with little practice you'll get there. Does your Guitar have one of those 13 pin synth access thing? would that make the midi conversion any more accurate at all? Yes, it requires its own particular playing ...

Yes, I'm finding it surprisingly accurate, PROVIDED the guitarist develops and implements a whole separate playing style strictly for this purpose of leading the arranger. If anybody thinks that they're going to fire up this hookup and "rock out", forget that. For that purpose, one should strive for ...

YES, an electric guitar WILL drive an arranger synth!

Yes, it works. I'm using a Carvin SH65 guitar equipped with GraphTech 'synth ready' components, (bridge, preamp, etc.). The 13-pin cable out from the guitar, into a Roland GI-20 MIDI interface for pitch-to MIDI conversion. MIDI OUT of the GI-20 to MIDI IN on the PA2XPro. I've been working on this ...

OK, it's taken several months to get all of my ducks in a row. It took ten weeks to get the 'synth access' guitar built.

But I'm happy to report that the answer to the question is: YES, YOU CAN DIRECT THE ARRANGER WITH CHORDS PLAYED FROM A GUITAR.

As a matter of fact, it works really well!

Neat photos! Yeah, I knew FZ had a few fingers in the then-current synth pie; wasn't aware of the specifics, though. It's just that the technology - and resulting possibilities - moved forward so rapidly there for awhile. I guess in my mind I was going back farther, trying to imagine the Mothers ...

Why an arranger?

Over a year ago, I went shopping for a much-needed upgrade/replacement of my studio’s N264. A demo video of the Pa2X Pro arranger from the NAMM show (from a previous year) alerted me to the possibilities an arranger might offer, and I eventually got one. It’s made significant changes in the way I wor ...

Yes. One of the fun things about these instruments, (unlike guitars and basses - which I'm also into), is that many of their capabilities can remain unused, like unread chapters of a book, until you find yourself on that page. I sometimes wonder what Spike Jones or Frank Zappa, for that matter ...
