what synth for my son, the bassist?

My 16-year-old son plays bass in a rock band. In addition to drums, there is a shredding lead guitarist and a rhythm guitar/lead vocalist. The band plays a respectable cover of YYZ by Rush, as well as several songs from the Flying Colors album released this year. They currently use no synths, but I ...

Yamaha Tyros 4 versus Oasys

Has anyone tried out a Yamaha Tyros 4? If so, how does it compare to the Oasys?

At $5299, is it substantially better than a Korg Kronos?

"I Have Measured Out My Life with Coffee Spoons"

Here is a new recording on the Oasys, inspired by a line from Eliot: "I Have Measured Out My Life with Coffee Spoons." I changed the arrangement quite a lot before settling on this one, which is intended to sound purely acoustic and intentionally minimal. The Oasys is such a fountain of great sounds ...

This video of the aftermath of the 1956 uprising on YouTube is, coincidentally, almost exactly the same length as the music. If you play the video simultaneously with the music, you will experience the latter as a soundtrack.

Great work.

Sometimes, I set the pan pot for one kit all the way to the left so that the signal is constantly changing to different positions in the acoustic space. If you are using toms, this technique can create the impression ...
