I think Mod-7 is a great synth engine (judging this from p.mahr's demos
which are very impressive). Mod-7 makes the Oasys into a very expresssive instrument. However, I also think Dr. Vanderberg demo's of the Octopus are impressive. But why do you happy Oasys owners make such a fuZZ about it?

Can Synclavier FM sounds be loaded into MOD7? I'm talking about sounds such as the synth gong at the beginning of Michael Jackson's "Beat It," and the weird sounds from the beginning of Glenn Frey's "The Heat Is On." If not, then can these sounds be recreated with MOD7, or is MOD7 more DX7 based? How many FM operators does MOD7 contain?

The MOD-7 only imports DX7 patches. It has 6 operators, plus a PCM oscillator and a Noise oscillator that can optionally be used as operators (modulators only). If you use only a subset of the MOD-7 capabilities, it's just like a DX7. However the available of feedback for every operator, waveshapers, dual multi-mode filters, far richer modulation capabilities, and many other sexy features make it something really a great deal richer than ye olde DX7.
