Korg Support

Post by hammer »

Hi Rob,

I am really pleased to understand that I am not a complete idiot about this matter. I have only owned my PA1X since January of this year but I still have not figured out how to do the things I must do to properly organize my gig stuff. I know you have offered up several good "how to" posts for me and they have really been helpful. It seems a real shame that Korg relies on one or two people in the states to help support their products.

Mick has also been very helpful and I can probably put enough together to work a 3 hour gig. But it just shouldn't be this complicated.

By the way, the only two complaints I really have about my PA1X are the style management issue and third party style issues. I think it sounds great and I really like th jazz and latin stuff.

It seems to me that if the "built-in" styles do not fit your needs you are in a heap of trouble from the start.

Again, thanks and perhaps people in the right places will read some of these posts and reconsider.

I was able to create several test banks and save them and can view them with the load command - but how do I save them to my keyboards hard drive or load them into the keyboard from the program?

hi hammer,

when you have a bank loaded, select "make .sty file" in the "bank" menu

when you select this you have the option of saving to a floppy, or anywhere on your pc or even into you direct hd bank, and you can also make a firect floppy disk as well if you want

Mick,

When I try to save a style it asks for a floppy drive letter which is ok but I don't see any options for saving the bank or set to a local hard drive.
Am I missing something?

Sure wish I had this program when I got my keyboard. What I plan to do now is to reload all the factory stuff and play through each style to see what I don't need. Sounds like a lot of time but it could be well worth it. Then I can start that same process on all the other styles I have on the keyboard's hard drive. Well, I am retired - so I guess time is available.

Has anyone come up with any schemes for setting up the style and performance banks with personalized styles and performances?

Got if figured out. All you need to do is type in the drive letter of your hard drive - a floppy is not needed. This will work great.

Hi hammer
as i said in a previous reply at the beginning of this thread, XRM has a quirk where it expects to know where your floppy drive is.

If you press the parameter button on the main screen you will see an option saying "floppy disk path"

just enter the drive letter of your floppy drive for example A: ( it's important to include the colon at the end)

Once you have done this XRM will from then on display the dialog box asking you where you want to save your bank of styles.

I don't know of anyone coming up with a scheme for setting up styles I suppose it is a personal thing

(Sorry hammer you must have been typing your reply at the same time as me)----- Glad you worked it out :D :D :D

Hi Mick,

You sure keep late hours. I used to do that - time caught up with me.

I figured it out - I typed in the letter of my local hard drive and can now save to my hard drive. That is really neat. I just need to play with it now for a few days and see what I come up with.

I also noticed you can rename the styles - kind of like a songbook entry. That will really be helpful.

More later.

Hi hammer

I work evenings, and get home at 1:45 am, then spend some time winding down before going to bed, so from about 2am to 4am is the time i'm mostly hanging around the forum.

another tip is you can rearrange the styles in you bank too ( look in the bank menu for move up and down)
also when you import a bank of style, XRM saves a copy of that bank so you can always recreate the original banks later
Regards

Mick,

As you know I got the .cab file and have the program up and running. I have played with it and it looks like a real winner. I just reloaded all the system resources on my PA1X and have gone through the first set of styles and made a note of those I want to delete.

How do I load the styles from my keyboard into the XRM program?
So far I have only worked on the 8/16 beat 1 bank.

hi hammer

XRM cannot interface with files stored in the factory banks. however if you require the factory styles in order to maybe rearrange your banks then they are available from http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=33638 the other way is to save your factory styles to either your user banks or directhd banks and then you can import them into xrm.

XRM can interact with your DirectHD banks via USB if you want to upload styles there.

Mick,

I am copying the factory styles bank by bank to my floppy disk where I can transfer them to a thumb drive and load them into XRM. After deleting those I don't want i will reverse the process and reload the set back into Bank 1 on the keyboard. I'll let you know how it goes.

Mick,

I finally have audition every single style on my PA1X and have used XRM to delete those I don't need and have saved the "new" version of all 16 banks on my laptop.

Is there a way to load all 16 banks into the correct area all at once or must I load each bank seperately? Also, Say I want to reload the first factory bank with my version of the bank - how do I do that?

Slow but sure I am getting there.

One other thought. Once I get all the styles loaded into the keyboard can I redo a factory backup and have a disk set with my new style setup so that it could be reloaded with a factory restore?

Hi hammer,

unfortunately there is no way of loading directly into the factory banks from any source apart from copying from either the user banks or the direct Harddrive banks.

also regarding backing up the factory banks this is possible, however this is not recommended. Any time you do an upgrade of the musical resources

You would be better of to load your new custom banks into the direct hard drive banks. this is possible to do from XRM via USB when writing a .STY bank in XRM, navigate to your PA!X hard drive, then you will see 3 folders called !123.SET (which corresponds to the first 3 buttons) !456.SET (which corresponds to the next 3 buttons and !789.SET(which corresponds to the last 3 buttons)

Let me know how you get on
Regards
