there's already a thread about these http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=51296Yornav wrote:So whats new??? Only the cardreader?
I use a smartcard adaptor with XD cards... 128mb... works fine for me... And 128mg is pretty enough to store a full set...
Only one thing I wonder about is, Does it read straight from the card now? Like a flash driver??? Or do you still have to load in...???
the only changes are the cardreader and some new preset patterns
No, it can't read straight from the card, it does the same things, it just uses SD instead of SmartMedia
I'd like to see new effects in the electribes. I'd also like to see the addition of USB instead of having to buy a separate USB SD Card Reader. The Electribe SD is not enough of an upgrade. Come on Korg! You can do better, I know you can! You're one of the few companies that makes drum machines any more. I've always loved the electribes, but this latest addition is a bit of a disappointment. Adding patterns and upgrading storage is not enough! The storage is nice, especially since 32GB is possible with the new electribes which is more then the Elektron Machinedrum at least. But the Native Instruments Maschine still beats you as you can use your whole entire hard-drive for storage of samples. Plus while the new patterns are cool, that's not enough. I almost considered getting this before I heard that it was only just a storage change. I would have at least liked to have see the addition of the USB. This is a sad day for Korg.

Elektrons have USB and they've been around as long as the SX/MX have... what's up KORG?lumenex7 wrote:I'd like to see new effects in the electribes. Elektrons don't have USB!? Unless you're talking about the new +Drive which I think does have it, but I don't recall 100%.
Update: not even the new +Drive versions have USB. But they can all make use of Turbo-Midi (TM-1) which is 10x faster than regular midi.

Quite amazing that Korg really didn't improve on the engines at all in these 'new' boxes. My guess is that very few of the existing EMX/ESX owners will actually get the new versions (will any EMX owners at all upgrade?), when potentially many of them would if they just added some new effects and extra power in the engines.
But will new potential users go for these boxes given the rather serious limitations given todays standards? Personally I was put off at the orginal versions release due to what I found to be restricted functionality.
A strange move by Korg this one...

I totally agree, and I hope Korg realises that this does more damage to their product line then they will gain from selling the "upgraded" electribes.
Please continue in the old thread: http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... 110#327110
now we have 2 threads about the same subject.
Thx !
mods: maybe you could close this one?

New EMX has nothing to offer current owners ...
I've been looking for a new drum machine/groove box ... Passed on a machinedrum trade for my Juno-60 (never liked the sound of that Elektron box) ... Wanted an LDII but just gave up waiting ...
After getting over my hardware-only mania, I've decided on this ...

Seems to really combine the best of hardware and software ...
I'm in the process of selling my EMX and I recently let my ESX go ... All that's left from the tribe is my ER-1 -- and two KP3s -- which I have no plans to get rid of at this point ...
